Post subject:  Piggy back ECU problem :(

When I first got this ECU I put it in my car and the car wouldn't start it would turn over but not fire so I took it out and tryed it in Friends car and first turn of the key it fired up and ran fine so I thought I would give it anouther go in mine, and same thing happend again it would turn over but no fire I have checked for error codes and it shows number 12 RPM signal fault - No G1,G2 or NE signal to ECU. I have checked all the wires they seem fine and my standard ECU works perfect showing no error codes has one got any ideas what I could be?

The ECU is a E.L prototype
Wich removes fuel cut, 112 speed limit and rev limiter
And has a different map on it.

My car is a ST185 JDM 1992

What year is your friends car ?
I'm thinking this ecu is maybe for the earlier 185 model 89-91 :?.

There are a number of different pinouts on the various gen2 3sgte ecu's. One variant has the dizzy signals in a different place, this just happens to be the verion in my 1990JDM.

The following has some useful information about the standard ECU.

You can work out which pinout by checking the wire colours in the loom against position in the plugs.

It is most likely that it could be that the ECU is for the wrong year/pinout config as has been suggested or....

IIRC the standard ECU will still run and not show a fault code with quite major issues with camshaft sensor inputs. I have had this once where an Apexi Power Fc would not a run a ST205 and yet standard ECU would. After lots of time and head banging it became apparent that the cam sensor was only outputting a single signal not all three of G1,G2 or NE.
