Hi All,

New to this forum so apologies if I have posted this in the incorrect place.

I am due to take my four on my first track day at the end of this month. I have a long list of things that I want to do before I go (listed below) if there is anything that anyone thinks I have missed off the list please post up your recommendations.

Secondly I want to get all the Geo set up correctly on my car, however I really need to know what settings are required so that I can pass these on to my local specialist.

Lastly what would the the ideal tyre pressures to run hot and cold so that I don't run into many issues.

The planned list of things to do before I take her out on track are as follows;

1; Get Geo done as ^above^
2; New pads (looking at EBC yellow Stuff pads for starters)
3; New Brake Fluid 5.1
4; New gear and diff oil (not been replaced since I purchased so a matter of course here really)
5; Purchase and fit oil cooler
6; purchase and fit oil temp gauge

If there is anything at all you can advise that would be awesome!

Cheers, Chris

Hi,

i found that the back of car is sensible in curves when you change the throttle positions
so i decided to go with uprated swaybars and it becomes great

you didn't have so much geo adjusting options if you drive the oem suspension, in last summer i tried a different adjustment with a toe in of 0,05 on all four wheels and i found a better curve driving

i drive with 1,5° negativ camber on the front and 3° on the back but this isn't adjustable on the oem suspension.....without cutting out a

i'am told from a few toyota mechanics that 5.1 is to aggresiv, i drive with Motul RBF660, Dot4, 325°C

i would go with a GL5 in the gearbox and diff around the viscosity that is recomendet in the owners manual or a higher grade after the W

hope it helps a little bit :)

greetz

Hot off the Wiki

Geometry wise if you want to stray away from stock (quite understeery) then 0 toe front and rear is a good start - that's what I run

Parrellel toe (0) front and rear
2.5 deg camber front and std camber rear
3-point strut brace front and rear.
Uprated ARB rear (front as well if you can get one).

May want to consider Water temp gauge as well.

I have an oil cooler kit (used) that I'm willing to sell - PM me if interested.
(See http://gt4dc.co.uk/info/howto/oilcoolerinstall/oilcoolerinstall.htm)

Tyre pressures vary tremendously.
Depends on the tyres you are running, track conditions and temperature.
R888s or similar have a stiffer side wall so you can decrease the pressure without the tyre coming off the rim when cornering hard.
Road tyres will need more pressure in as the sidewalls will distort under extreme load.
I would start at about 35-38 psi all round, do 3-5 laps, come in and check pressures.

Something else I would suggest is getting some tuition - usually available on the day for £20-30, nothing will do more to improve your driving and enjoyment of the day.

Out if interest which circuit are you doing?

If its still this cold on your track day you won't have to worry about fitting an oil cooler!

You don't say if your car is standard or modded to run higher boost? I ran my standard ST205 on many track days without any problems. If you are running a boost controller I would recommend either switching it off or turning it down to a sensible level e.g 1bar. Its common for the engine to over-boost or spike when driving on track.

Hi All,

Thanks for the info should provide me with some key points to look into.

So my sus set up is near to standard apart from KYB gas shocks and Tein springs.

As for modifications the car is running a little more boost at 1Bar, with fitted HKS Mushroom Filter and decat dp. From your advise I have decided against the Oil cooler for now but will be something that I will do in the future when I have a little more power.

My Track day is at Donnington park, I have some tuition booked already, I am also going with some of my friends who have been to many track days before.

Is that -2.5 camber or +2.5 deg?

Also do you have any recommendations on what the caster should be set to?

Thanks for you help!

EDIT: That'll be -2.5deg

that will be 2.5 deg of negative camber :-)

To show you the difference:-

Positive camber looks like this:-

Negative camber looks like this:-

yeah i love Donington, been there a few times but cant pass the normal drive by limit anymore or the static noise test so i can only go there on noisy days now. :(

as the above mate sound advice, although i have been going against the rules for the last 5 out of 7 years by running 1.18bar on track all day everytime on track and touch wood all is still well after 129,000miles... although i do have the supporting mods to take it with a huge Forge fmic etc but sound advice, 1 bar on the cc i would max.
