Right ive just put my piggy back in the car (big thanks to brendan) for makeing the loom, but now my engine management light is staying on while the car is running! so i thought i would check for errors put the paper clip in turned the ignition on and the light just stays on constantly, has anyone got any ideas what to do?

the car is a late spec JDM 1992 J reg ST185
P.s is a E.l prototype piggy back

If its a prototype and nothing else is wrong then looks like it might need a bit more work. Does t he light go away if you take th epiggy back out?

Yeah if i take the piggy back out and put the standard one in its fine, the piggy back is made for a early rev2 and mine is a late rev2 so i have had a harness made up. and now the light stays on what ever i dooooo :(

EL Prototypes was (years ago) a manufacturer of "techtom" type ECUs. They would take the standard ECU and add a daughter board to it with an externel EEPROM that would hold the maps in its memory.

The std Toyota ECU holds the maps on a custom chip that does a load of other stiff so is kept and IIRC they cut a PCB track and run a new one to the new daughter board & external memory chip.

The benefit is that the EEPROM can be easily burnt with a new map if you know what you are doing and the EEPROMs are bloody cheap.

You end up with a standard Toyota ECU logic & functions but with a custom map slapped over the top. PITA to remap and can't be remapped "live".

No idea if they allow fault codes to be read still though.

It does however sound like either the ECU or wiring is the issue if teh engien management light is on when its running.
