Hi,

you definetly have to measure the clearance and correct it if it is out of tolerance

As Sunny says - you will need to change the shims - also check that you don't get "coil bind" with these cams i.e. you can turn the camshaft without the spring coils touching each other

Does anyone local to me with knowledgeable know how to do this fancy helping to get this part of the job going i have all the tools necessary to do this job but dont really want to do it wrong hence the help, two heads and all that the engine is stripped down to the cams belt is still on so its just a mater of going through the shim clearances, free food and drink on offer thanks Bazza.

Hi,

just ask your local toyota dealer, iirc my head was ~200-250€

i want to do it myself but had the problem that no shim fits any more (doesn't closed the valve any more in front of the machined valve seats and custom cams), so it was the cheaper way for me instead to buy a useless set of shims just to measure the correct ones
