Post subject:  just fitted a boost controller and have a question

Hi all i just fitted a manual boost controller that i bought off of demon-tweeks.co.uk However when i installed it even on the lowest setting it's running 1.2 bar. I figured on lowest setting it would be substantially lower. So my question is, is there something wrong with the boost controller, something wrong with my turbo lines or is that normal? It was stock before boosting around .9 bar. and it's a 1996 gt4 205. Any info would be awesome guys thanks!

Got any pictures of the installation?

What type of controller is it?

Have you disabled the TVSV?

yeah with boost controllers they should ideally have an Off setting in which it should boost at actuator pressure, around 0.6bar, it should not boost 1.2bar out the tin, nor do you want it to or you will have a short life of the stock turbo.

as above, pictures will be a good starting point

With the controller fully open it should be as if it was not there, so a bit strange?

0.9 as stock seems a bit high to me, but some of the more experienced members will confirm?

This makes me think, is the gauge accurate?

Just a point here - the above should not be the case if you disabled the TVSV correctly.

The TVSV raises boost in the higher gears rather than restricting it in the lower ones.

If the car is performing better with just the TVSV disabled then maybe you have a boost leak somewhere. I would check how you blocked the pipes etc.

My understanding of the TVSV was that it limits boost in 1st gear for the 205. Which i could confirm even before i fitted the boost controller. Because in first gear it was around .6 bar then 2nd+ was around .9 like i said. So pretty much i'm just saying it reverse. So stock boost would be .6 then the TVSV raises it to .9 for 2nd gear plus right?

That's what i was thinking because when i first took it out after fitting the boost controller i made sure it was open all the way before i started checking my boost pressure on the road. That's why i'm confused

That is correct - if you just disable the TVSV and do nothing else you will have around 0.6 bar in all the gears.

The TVSV works to add the extra boost in the higher gears. We disable it when adding other boost control to ensure that only one controller is managing the boost and to provide the same boost in all gears.

also this is the guide i followed on the TVSV

http://www.gtfours.co.uk/default.htm?ht ... cd/fcd.htm

I followed the instructions that came with the boost controller so i know i hooked everthing up right. I checked my lines too and couldn't find anything wrong with them.

Did you replace the pipe that comes off the chargecooler?

Its missing in the 2nd picture - that will certainly cause a large boost leak!

Where is the TVSV line blocked off?

In the picture all I can see is two complete connections to the wastegate - the one that runs underneath the charge cooler needs to be blocked as per

Also worth (if possible) dismantling the manual controller and making sure it's all clean. Sometimes they do seize up

indeed, the pipe that comes out to face the back of the bay doesnt appear to be blocked off?
