Post subject:  Back on the dyno

Following the arrival of the Apexi Power FC last Friday, it was 'installed' on Sunday and today was the day it was properly mapped.

While it did have base maps already 'on board' and the car was driveable, it certainly wasn't as good as the OE ECU - it did smooth out a couple of flat spots on trailing throttle, but it obviously wasn't good enough to be driven on for any period of time.

This was immediately blatant on the dyno when at cruising revs, the ignition was being advanced to +50 degrees  And that is not a typo.

Anyway, a couple of hours later and the engine was running very sweetly indeed and was producing some decent figures. I'm still essentially running the motor in and as such, am keeping the boost down for another 3000ks just to make sure.

Two boost settings have been set by the Profec B - 13.6psi and 10.5psi.
Here is the 'High' setting...

236.5whp

Pretty happy with that. Only 8kW (10.7whp) lower than the previous dyno before the work was done and running 16.2psi.

The lower setting showed 164.3kW (220whp) - again with a beautifully flat torque curve. This chart has been overlaid with a mate's ST205 readout who is running an Apexi Power FC, high flow CT20B, full exhaust and K&N panel filter...

An obvious difference in power delivery - especially at the top end of the rev range. Other engine is running out of puff below 6000 while mine is still pulling like a schoolboy at 7200 with a higher boost setting. A testimony to the balanced bottom end, HKS 264 cams and fully worked cylinder head. Things can only improve with a bigger turbo, exhaust and tubular exhaust manifold.

Have to say I'm a happy chappy

Hmmmmmm,

That does look nice dribble

Torque appears very flat and comes on far sooner than a CT20 on a stock motor if I'm not mis-reading the graphs. The head work must be making a lot more low end flow for that to happen

Should be a fair kick in the pants when you wind it up with that GT30 :!:
