Just wondering if it's normal to have endfloat on the shaft for a ball bearing garrett. The Garrett (and other) website talk about side to side play but no mention of endfloat.

The turbo I'm looking at has only slight side to side play but a fair bit of endfloat. Not enough for blades to touch housing but worried it could be a sign of imminent failure.

Had an answer from a local turbo company of 10 thou endfloat and 20 thou radial. I've just measured 0.14mm endfloat so within spec.

just to make you feel even happier, i had my hand inside my GT3071 today and there was a little movement too. as you say, not enough to touch the walls, but enough to feel it.
