afternoon all, whilst im not getting this done for at least six months
i am starting to look at things i need to start buying or need to get sorted
along the way. im hoping to get tim from tb developement to do the work,
anyway with forged pistons going in the chance to up power a little seems to be very tempting,im not looking to go mad ideally id like to keep the charge cooler and turbo but maybe change the cams and put adjustable pulleys on, ive not really got a power goal but just thought that whilst its out may aswell change them im also looking at an ecu not sure yet which way to go on this yet, id just like to control things properly. any thoughts
or suggestions will be greatley appreciated.
cheers cunning

IMO:
Just changing cams will give very little gain but will lose bottom end smoothness & drivability. A very expensive excersise for nothing.

From experience, the standard ECU controls things better than an aftermarket one unless you have done fairly extensive mods and have bought an expensive ECU with knock control etc. and spent a fortune on mapping. If you want to go beyond 1.2 bar boost to take advantage of the forged internals, then a new ECU would be on the cards.

IMO best value for money upgrade would be a mild hybrid. This will lose bottom end a little but gain at the top end. The Turbo technics single port hybrid seems a favorite among several on here. My only experience is the Fensport stage 2 ct20 which goes well once past 4K RPM but going slowly up hills in 5th doesn't happen.

You should set a plan for what you want out of the car. Otherwise you will waste a lot of money.

The car only used for fun with no need for much practicality
I've done all the basic stuff and pretty much everything on the outside of the engine has been replaced in the last few months
All the brakes have been done new line discs and pads,
The aim?? Not sure, never spent money gunning for hp,
Before , I have been running standard boost all this time aswell, I only thought cams as I thought this would allow more air In whilst not pushing the turbo , I'm only guessing though
Should I be looking at getting new injectors they are one of the only things not changed?

You'd need an aftermarket ecu if you are going to run different injectors.

getting a proper fully programmable ecu will be one of the better expensive mods you could do. i prefer motec, but there are others too. ryang does the syvecs ecu, he's pretty local to you (ish).

but as mentioned already, how much money can you afford to burn in the pursuit of a fast car? come back with a realistic budget.

i agree, as personally looking at big cams on a stock turbo is pointless is it not?

My max power tops at 5800, pre fmic it was 6400rpm so the cams would be wasted imo

Our cars dont really need cams because of the turbo making power. Naturally aspirated cars benefit from cams as it allows them to keep making power after their standard redline.

What model have you got?

Cams will increase power at the top end even on the standard turbo. The gains will be small however and the bottom end loss noticable.
If you were going for a hybrid which loses the bottom end anyway, then cams will become more worthwhile.

Thanks for the reply's, my budget for the car is £5k this is what I've got to play with all other areas of the the car have been sorted ie suspension/brakes my car is a 205, the only reason ive been looking at cams is I've been offered hks264
Cams and pulleys in exchange for some work on there house so the cost was only my time. Injector wise I was just looking at getting new standard ones or get mine cleaned? Just thought that everything else is new or going to be.

Using standard ones will limit you to ~350hp...

Go for an aftermarket ECU and get 800 or 850cc/min injectors - that will open up a range of possibilities :)

hi all and merry christmas, well ive been in discussion with tim from tb and it looks like i will
be getting things done for april just got to send off a deposit. now ive been given a couple of options that will futre proof my car and lesten the need to remove the engine again in the future, now with my plans for the car beeing a gt car that can be pushed round the track every now and then, i cant see me ever wanting to loose the all round drivability that ive had. the options are either use my current rods and get them balanced and use arp studs or go for eagle conrods, theres not much price difference just wondered whta you guys think
the other thing was valve springs uprate while apart or leave standard this is more for if i want to go over 4000 hp any thoughts the diferrence in price is only small so im thinking just do it. but i would like other peoples thoughts the car will be running standard turbo at about 1.0/1.1 bar eventualy. any way happy cristmas and thanks for the replys so far

If it were me I'd save my money and just check and balance the standard rods after all, you are not shooting for mega horsepower. On the other hand with the valve springs it is worth changing them. As an example Sirius thought that he would re-use his standard springs in his engine rebuild but it transpired from inspection that they were worn hence a decision was taken to replace them.

If you want to go over 4000bhp i would reccomend a couple of jet engines, the 3s may crack at that power. :D haha

sorry couldn't resist!

pah 4000bhp, nothing like overkill. anyway apart from being a dumb arse that doesnt check what i type ive decided to go with both springs and rods
the price diference was only £300 give or take a few beans.
