I don't have a 185 but would think its an open front diff, viscous centre and Torsen rear for the CS/RC. The earlier air-to-air intercooled ST185 I think may have an open rear diff as it seems to be a popular mod to replace with an ST205 rear Torsen diff? Hopefully a 185 owner can confirm.

I had a feeling the earlier 185's had a limited slip rear but a different (inferior) type.

I could be talking out of my jacksie though.

Thats great thanks.

As for the lsd in a 185, apparently it was an optional extra.

america and europe had option of open vs torsen rear diff for st185
japanese st185 have all torsen rear diff regardless of model
all RC/CS/205/215/246 have torsen rear diff

Do not refer to codes on the VIN plates. The celica diff information is incorrect and has never been verified except for a handful of cases which amounts to mere coincidence.

I wrote a little on the alltrac site about this, but can't find the relevent information anymore unfortunately but this is my understanding of the rear diff situation and aligns with user experiences i've read about.
