Funny enough, it happens to be 'base black' from my local paint supplier so is much cheaper than a mixed paint (as long as it's one of the honest assistants)

Wasn't my 185 during one of it's brief 'quick it's not blown yet, let's drive it' moments was it ?

If not, I'd guess it was just a layer of grey dirt.

Why would you want to do any large repairs with rattle cans???? In the short and long run ots not viable and also expensive. You will never get the finish you want or depth of colour with a rattle can. Do the prepwork with guidance amd hand the panels over to a professional to paint. You will save a bit of money and with expert guidance learn a bit aswell as getting a better job done

I use Rainbow paints on the Ferndown Industrial Estate. They still do the old fashioned highly toxic 2K stuff if you want it.

I have a feeling they do rattle cans, but obviously not in 2K.

For small 'rattle can' areas, I normally use a small airbrush type spray gun so you only need to mix a little paint. Works out much cheaper than rattle cans and the finish is better.

As Duncan says, if you want the car to look right, do the prep yourself and take to a professional for the final layers.
Unless you have access to ovens / clean air rooms the paint is full of dust, flies etc by the time it's set. Fine if you only want the car to look ok from 20 feet + (like me)
