Hi Guys,

Took the cat of on Sat afternoon and in the bin it went... Along with the A/C compressor.

So thats 2 more heavy items gotten rid of.

At the bottom of the cat is a sensor doesn't look like an O2 coz it has no holes.

Looks more like a Thermal probe would this be an exhaust temp sensor?

i can't see any mention of it after a quick scan through the manuals.

cheers
Midnite

It is a cat temp sensor and is only on the JDM vehicles- basically it will illuminate a light on the dash if teh cat starts to overheat (usually because the cat has dissintergrated or collapsed) It can be junked without an error code. I would be interested to see if it could be used as an EGT gauge though.

I didn't know that so i'll have to do some temp tests on it,

it must be capable in some way of reading temp to know when over heat has occured.

finding a gauge to work with it may be a bit more of a challange

I'd pray it dissintergrated.... much more nippy motors without the cats guts slowing the gas flow down :D

If you take a look at my website http://jamjar.harbourlight.uk.com and look at my 185 section you'll see some pic's of what a cats guts look like, if you don't already know that is :)

Being a 1990 car you wont need it for the MOT either providing your in the UK that is :)

Binned it for a 3" pipe that cat is all cast iron must weigh 10k or more.

Plus the is much more room without it in the way.

I dont know if it is actually a temperature detecting sensor (i.e reads what the temp is) or if it is just an overtemp switch (i.e syas it is too bloody well hot)

Yes i see where you're coming from more of a too late indicator like an oil pressure switch.

only comes on when the cat is cooked.

looks like a job for the multimeter and a blow torch
