Hi,

I just try to find good fitting downpipe for my celica st205. Can anyone give tips for that which is good? I hope that it would go directly to the original location. Without the need to remove any of the original parts.

I live in Finland and I think to order it from ebay and uk seller. Please tell me what is best downpipe in ebay. What you use? Pros Cons?

Can you tell me some other options. Aussie is quite expensive, but I think it fits well. Is there any other good options?

Aussie usually fits well apparently, but is very prone to cracking. I've had 2 out of 2 crack - several times - repair one crack and another appears somewhere else soon after.


I used an ebay stainless cheapie on my 185 which I had to cut & weld a wee bit to get it fit properly, but it's been excellent since, no cracking.

IMO, save money and buy the cheapie, then put the spare money towards getting it to fit well (assuming you can't weld yourself).

Ive got an ebay cheapie on the car and havent had any problems with it at all, some people talk about some downpipes fouling the wastegate but Ive got 2 and neither have broke on me. Do a suprisingly good job of being a bit of pipe

I just so happen to be selling one actually

Hi,

after i cracked the aussie downpipe becouse of a not mounted buttom bracket i'am using any no name cheap ebay stainless steel downpipe becouse it
just was quick available from a friend, but i'am happy for 3 years of driving with it without problems, so my advise is to buy such one just becouse it is cheap

Thank you a lot for replies. I appreciate it. I have a tig welding machine, so I think to buy cheap ebay downpipe. Will you have to modify all the cheap downpipes? I have c-one front pipe so I think compatibility is pretty good.

Do you use catalytic converter? If you use then where you install it? Maybe like this:

I use Aussi downpipe as well as their frontpipe. Fitted plug&play and lasts since four years now. But as Aussi discontinued this parts their hard to find.

A good alternative could be the downpipe from Berk. Not cheap, but it has an flexi in it.

I welded a 100 CPI steelcat into the frontpipe behind the front axle.

I dont know what the law requires where you are but I managed to get away with removing the cat entirely, noticed a big difference in torque without the restriction in caused

Turns out with a L reg st205 import you can get away with it too for mot

Revoming the stock cat will surely improve torque and specially the spoolup as the stock cat is extreme restrictive.

When I bought my Sainz the cat was already removed. As this is against local law (here in Germany) and would be punished as tax evasion I wanted to integrate a cat again. The 100 CPI was the best way do do this. Car passes the smoke test without problems and because of the good flow rate and the position behind the axle it don´t impaired the power output and spoolup.

Drove it two years without cat and than welded the steelcat into the frontpipe. I can´t notice a loss in power.

You were lucky then! No ST205's were produced before the cat cut-off date. Doesn't matter if they are JDM imports or UK spec.

I have heard about some peculiar rule that you can sometimes get away with for the early JDM cars in that if you can convince the MOT tester that there is no specific entry for the car in the MOT testing book then it gets a non-cat test.

I think its bending the rules really as its one hell of a technicality. :)

I'm having a CAT installed in my car.

Curiously as well I felt my car was more 'punchy' with the OEM cat in place - definitely not as powerful top end but I felt the round town performance was better with it in place.

I spoke to vosa regarding this and if the car is an import and there is a uk version then the car is to be tested as the equivilant uk model, so a jdm st205 would be tested as a uk spec....

However, if it then fails it can have a non cat test carried out.

realistically, as you guys know the mot is designed with so much left to the interpretation of the tester that it really does depend who you go to and what mood theyre in.

I fitted my EBC at the same time as removing the cat so to be honest I had a load of extra psi in the lower gears after fitting. Maybe thats where all the torque came from :D

The bureaucracy moveth in mysterious ways. I wonder if it is mysterious enough to let me re-register my UKDM car as a JDM :lol:

Hmm, I wonder now that Mike has a JDM 3S-GTE in his UK ST205 chassis if his car is now technically illegal :lol: No EGR fitted, tut-tut. Would confuse the heck out of the MOT man I'm sure.
