Well my engine was balanced with the following:
  • HKS stroker crank;
  • HKS lightweight flywheel;
  • Unorthodox alloy underdrive pulley.

The same company makes a ST185 specific balancer as well :

http://www.garage7.com.au/home/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=2885&category_id=596&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=53

Originally they put out the MR2 balancer claiming it fit the ST185 as well (they are clearly different designs and not interchangeable) I traded a few emails with them regarding the fitment and differences but never heard any more than "we can make you a custom one for $$$", I see now they have a separate part number for the ST185 (804200-1 vs 804200 for the MR2)

Here is the original post regarding the dampener fitting both:

Excellent info. :D
Thank you very much 8)
I'm currently in discussions with Garage7 (who in turn are talking to Ross Performance directly) :wink:

Please can some check against their ST185 pulley to see if the following pulley is correct
(has the correct number of ribs for the belt)

I think I have answered my own question...
It appears that the one above is for an MR2 SW20 Rev2
http://www.fensport.co.uk/Parts/Model_28/Category_1/4343
and the one I need should look like this:

Update...
I sent through pictures and information and, as a result, I have just found out/had confirmed that Ross Performance DO NOT make a harmonic balancer pulley for the ST185 :(
(They appear to market the MR2 one as fitting the ST185 which infact turns out to be incorrect).

If you're worried about the lack of a harmonic balancer on your balanced crank why don't you just fit an OEM damped pulley? Seeing as its planned to be a sprint and circuit car then the revs will be up and down so you shouldn't have any problems even if you don't have a harmonic balancer fitted.

Easy for me to say I know :twisted:

Bump.

185 oem pulley = 13407-88380
205 oem pulley = 13407-88480

Anyone happen to know the difference?

I'd guess weight, as pistons & rings are different between the 185 & 205, surely the weight to balance out harmonics would need to be different ?

Hmm, I need it for my TTE Corolla WRC crank with CP pistons, Carrillo rods and tbd flywheel/clutch :mrgreen:

Thanks for your help as well Don, I'm not good at math.

Post subject:  Re: Crank Pulley Question

Seriously tho Rene, not sure if the choice of crank pulley will make any real difference. The combination of TTE crank, Carillo rods, CP pistons and non-standard flywheel and crank will probably change the harmonics. The crucial thing is to get everything balanced during each phase of the build process. As you know, this is my setup too and we have simply fitted a standard ST205 crank pulley/damper. In any case, I'm highly unlikely to be holding constant rpm with my track use so I don't expect harmonics to be an issue. If you are planning on road use then I'm unsure of the consequences.

I know Don, I will have the whole assy balanced anyway once pieced together. I was just curious about physical differences between the 2 as I do want to retain a damper. Car will be used on road and track.

Hi,

Rene, get your internals + block to

http://www.rallye-engine.com/

he lives near the nl boarder and did my engine internals (bearings, balancing, pistons)
he should be the right man to help you :)
