hi all recently fitted some new dials and am having a problem locating a switched live.

i want the dials to light up when lights are turned on like they normally do once you twist stalk, so have managed to find a switched live on the stalk but it seems to be a constant +12 and when i turn lights on it turns off!!!

a tad confused so could anyone point me in right direction as to how i can locate the correct switched live that is used as normal, either on stalk or behind speedo cluster itself.

model im working on is st185 1992 import.
thanks

The light feed is a green wire and probably easiest found on the clock or cig lighter.

Easiest live feed switched by ignition is also from the cig lighter or clock, green-red.

If it's similar to the 205 you probably have the right wire. Connect a switched live to one side of the bulb and the wire you tested to the other

The wires to the stalk switch to ground from what I remember, they drive relays which then switch the live.

Use the Light feed (green) to feed the lamps.
Use the ignition feed to drive the gauges.

Possibly different to the 205 then as that uses a switch in the earth side - thought that may explain the 12v until the lights are on phenomenon
It took a bit of head scratching to get my gauges to dim with the cluster

All sorted now. Used the switched live off the fog light connector so dials illuminate when lights are turned on. This also keeps the loom all in same area around instrument cluster so neat and tidy.
Thanks for replies.
