can i get a code 52 from an engine knock or only from knackered KS cheers Ted

It's sensed by a lack of noise above 3000 rpm - i.e. knock sensor or wiring fault - usually sensor or connector.

One common mistake is people remaking the connector without reasising it is screened cable (inner signal wire, covered in earthed wire then plastic over the lot) and inadvertantly shorting the signal to ground by connecting the inner & outer wires.

Wot i meant was does it have to be a failure of KS/wiring ect or can engine knock trigger the code

AFAIK knock can't trigger the code.

Ok thanx just im gettimg a random code 52 sometimes on tickover or startup last time it was like you said over 3 k revs

I just had this problem and changed the sensor, seems to of cleared though. May not be an intermittent problem mind you, I thought it was until I realised it was because I was driving around below 3000rpm off boost, lol. :D

How critical is it to torque knock sensor as damned if i can get a torque wrench in there

ok fingers crossed another knocksensor all seems good so far must of just been a dodgy one
