Maybe ask them if they need their setup manual re-writing? IIRC Mike has struggled a bit with some of the setup (quite usual with motorsport items TBH as they expect you know how to already do it!)

I can relate to JP's comments having just acquired a new AIM GPS lap timer. Maybe something got lost in the Italian to English translation

It sounds like it could be a new revenue stream for Lord Mudwater?

Motorsport product manuals always seem to be written at a high level and assume the reader has a similar knowledge level as the designer! Whilst I appreciate they couldn't be written for a complete lay-person even half baked engineers struggle in their current form.

Ummm! re-write their manuals in return for some of their kit - sounds like a plan :D

So...
I decided to give Race Technology a ring today and have a chat.
They were very, very helpful 8)

First question was about Option 1 - ECU to DL1 (see previous post for diagram) and whether it was possible to connect the Dash2 to ECU and leave the DL1 feed unterminated.
Answer was Yes :)

Next I went into details about my setup (Defi gauges; MoTeC M4; etc) and what I wanted to do/achieve.
To cut a long discussion short, the solution (in brief) was...
The Dash2 PRO with the GPS Data Logging option = job done :D
As it happens this turns out to be the cheapest solution, that is, cheaper than getting a Dash2 with either the DL1Sport or DL1Club.

I wasn't pressured in any way into buying, far from it - 'Any questions just give them a call' :D 8)
Infact, I stuck my name down (well gave my email address) for the next (tbd) FREE training course that they'll be doing.

Just got to save some pennies up now

Here's what setup I'll go for with what I have and with the addition of purchasing the Dash2 PRO.

So what exactly are you going to display on the Dash2 Pro? Looks like you have tacho and all the other temps and pressures, AFR's etc. covered elsewhere. What sensor readings are you feeding into the MoTeC. I'm confused.com!

You're confused :!: ...imagine how I feel :?

Ok so :deep_breath: what I have decided is...
All the Defi kit will be used for monitoring, what I call, essential engine parameters (temp, pressure, boost).
[Currently don't have EGT - need to look into this a bit more]
All the Defi kit is complete with gauges, sensors and wiring.
This kit, importantly, gives me the audible and visual warnings - which can be seen easily via the Defi vsd head-up display without distracting me from where I am going.
[Past experience has shown that you don't have time to look at gauges or even the dash when speeding round a track or sprint course].
This is also the reason for the tacho and shift light option mounted on the right of the dashboard and in my peripheral vision.

The MoTeC ECU is fed by the standard engine loom sensors and parameters.
[I currently do not have a loom from the ECU to the standard dash display].
Therefore, the Dash2 PRO is a plug'n'play solution to display these ECU parameters.
It will also be used to display track information, breaking points, lap times, etc using the built in 2G Accelerometer.
[I want to look at this info. between runs, if time permits, or during the lunchtime break to improve my performance]
It will also, with the GPS Data Logging option, give me the data logging capability without the need to get a DL1.

The Innovate LC1 AFR is primarily for tuning purposes.
The Link Knock control unit may become redundant if I'm taking this information from the standard knock sensor (fed to the ECU).

It may seem a bit overkill to get the Dash2 PRO as I'm in effect monitoring the same/similar parameters as the Defi kit.
However, when weighing up the cost, the DL1Sport + Dash2 + sensors, wires and cables would work out a lot more expensive than the Dash2 PRO + GPS option + cable would be.
The other advantage with the Dash2 PRO is, as I found out today, I can add the options (e.g. GPS option) at a later date...thus spreading the financial load.

I would stress at this point a couple of things:
[*]I feel very reluctant, at this moment in time, to part with my Defi Kit;
[*]If starting from scratch, I would go the Race Technology route (i.e. DL1Sport or DL1Club + Dash2 + sensors, wires and cables).

Glad you have a plan now Nigel.

Do you have any more details about this training course? Very interested!

Yeah, I would be interested in the training course too!

BTW, thanks for the detailed explanation 8)

A quick question on dash specs :-
"4 analogue inputs as standard with 8 as an upgrade" or "can bus direct from ECU"

does this mean that the canbus will leave all 4/8 analogue inputs free or will you only be able to monitor/log 4/8 ECU sensor data on the dash even with Canbus?

I don't have any further info on a training course.
I think it's a case of if there is enough interest they will arrange a date and then email everyone.
May well be worth giving them a ring and expressing an interest.

My understanding is that the Dash2 PRO has 4 analogue inputs as standard with 8 as an upgrade AND a CAN receive option or ECU interface.

You know what I am going to say, and I know you will proceed in the above different direction so I won't say it ;-)
