Currently looking at dash displays and would like some help/advice.

Do I splash out and go for a MoTeC CDL3 or would a Race Technology Dash 2 work just as well.
...or perhaps something else?

(I have Defi gauges [Oil Temperature; Oil Pressure; Water Temperature; Boost] with Control Unit and a VSD head-up display; Defi rev counter with shift light; KnockLink Control and a MoTeC M4 ECU)

TIA

Buy my AIM MXL Pro5 display and it plugs straight in to your MoTeC M4 to display the ECU readings and a host of other parameters, datalogging etc. 8) It's heading for eBay in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks to both Don and Mike on this subject.

Currently looking at what I want to do and what options I have.

One thing I have found out is that the Defi Control Unit II does have a 3 minute logging capability which is enough for one sprint lap.
(that's only with regards to what's connected which is basically temperature and pressure readings).
Now looking to see if that information could be extracted from the unit (to, say, a pc/laptop).

If I was starting from scratch I would go with:
    Race Technology DL1 (Data Logger)
Race Technology Dash 2 (Dash Display)
Race Technology optional extra - GPS Logging
Race Technology optional extra - Accelerometer
    Race Technology sensors

So doing some more homework on the matter and considering what I need right now but could add to at a later date.
Initial thoughts are to get a Race Technology Dash 2 (Dash Display) with connector lead to MoTeC M4 - pretty much a plug-n-play solution that could have the logging capability added to at a later date - thus spreading the cash flow load.

Sounds like a sensible approach. I don't think you can go wrong with the Race Technology gear. The BTCC and other series like Britcar can't all be wrong if the use the kit 8) I've sourced a lot of my sensors from them and they have been very helpful.

Hi Nigel,

Just to point out the GPS logging and the Accelerometers are in-built features of the DL1 so you get them anyway.

Your approach seems sensible for getting the car to a useable configuration. Happy to lend a hand when you do finally get the DL1. Also there is quite a good forum for all the Race Technology stuff available through their website.

Cheers,

Mike

Right - that's interesting.
Initial thoughts still stand with regards getting the dash first.
However...
My next step would be to see if I can, at a later date, use the Defi sensors and wiring to plug into a DL1 :?:

You will be able to connect the Defi sensors to the DL1 but that is probably not the best idea if you ever wanted to sell the Defi gauges on - they would need sensors to go with them.

Most of the sensors are not 'that' expensive so probably better off getting standard Bosch type ones when the time comes.

Thanks again Mike :D

I have been reading the Race Technology web site.

Option 1 - ECU to DL1 - only gives me the logging capability but no display.

Option 2 - ECU to DL1 to Dash2 - This would be my long term aim and preferred setup

Now looking to see if there is the option of ECU to Dash2.
That is, does it use the same cable configuration as option 1 above (but to the Dash2 as opposed to the DL1) or is it a dedicated cable from the Dash2 to a MoTeC M4.
This will obviously have a bearing when coming to, at a later date, adding the DL1.

If I were you I'd just lift the phone to Race Technology. I found them very helpful and it would save a lot of guesswork or worse making the wrong decision.

It looks like there are numerous specs of DL1 some with and some without GPS/accelerometers.

Also consider that there are "deals" on DL1 & display bundles.

I would seriously consider selling the Defi now (as good as it is I expect it will be out of its depth) and using the funds raised to install a DL1 with some basic sensors & a klaxon ;-)

What do you actually want to see on the dash display?

Yes - I was looking at a DL1Sport (or above) plus a Dash 2...
This package:

Yes you're probably right (as I have also been told by others  )
Anyone after some brand new Defi Link Meter BF gauge kits (amber illumination) :?: :D
I'll even give you a special GT4DC price as well

[*]Review your braking points and grip usage with the built in 2g 3-axis. accelerometer
[*]Lap and sector timing, in the software, or live with a DASH2

Also, I would like to replace my standard binnacle/dash.
I don't have a lead from the MoTeC M4 to it for a start which means I would have to make one up.
Dash 2 is a plug'n'play solution (with the appropriate lead) and is road legal.
It gives me everything I need.

The package deal seems to offer a significant discout over buying the bits seperatley.

That being said I would recommend that you go for the DL1 Club rather than the Sport. It has some extra features that could be quite useful. You also don't have to buy the GPS antenae as an extra it comes with it.

If you do decide to do that its well worth speaking to them and seeing if they can do anything on the price. I was able to negotiate 10% off on my setup.
