yeah think your right he seems to of put a catch can on which im certain is not plumbed right and is bone dry, ripped head off today and we discovered is fitted with steel gasket that im sure is weeping prob due to not having skimmed head as to who did this we are not sure as gord who did rebuild in 2010 and sold car to last owner said he fitted standard gasket, have found a burned out valve in no 2 also valve stems seem to be wet of oil havent removed pistons as yet as all seems good and bores look perfect.

Unfortunately I think he did the work himself... he is on facebook if you search for his name. Gord smith i think it was.

His car was always having problems I think as i had many arguments with him about the reliabillity of a four and he said they were crap, I argued that 145,000miles without so much as a turbo or headgasket change when looked after they were tanks.

So I know his car had multiple engine problems

well its all back together and seems to running fine, no smoke and not over heating. It is however throwing a code now for the heated 02 sensor. Will have a look at this as it probably got coated in oil and unburnt fuel form number 2 . Apart from that it looks like its all systems go again, thanks for all the advice, just got to wait for an admin to accept me on my own name, i have filled in the registration and it says an admin wll accept and email me but nothing yet..

Cheers again all

Gavin

So, what do you think/know the problem was?

And was it a cheap fix?

valves on pot 2 were cracked. it cost about 170 quid all in for the second hand head and gasket set. 2 days work.

I had the same thing recently. 2 cracked exhaust valves(NO.2 and 3 cil.).
Oil coming out of the bov.

replaced the valves on the exhaust side, all 8. New pistonrings and HG.

Good to see you fixed the problem.
