I was on my way to work this morning and I'd covered about 2 miles.
I was doing about 45mph when I looked down to check my speed. As I did so the oil light suddenly lit up....then went out after 2 seconds.
I pulled over straight away. I checked under the car for leaks....nothing. I checked the dipstick....ok the oil was warm so I couldn't get an accurate reading at all....but it showed oil on it anyhow. I unscrewed the oil cap......fine.

I got back in the car and carried on my way to work.
I remembered the normal condensation when I first started the car this AM......it was a cold morning indeed so all the cars were showing condensation steam. I got to work, parked and got out to check the exhaust......the car was idling normal and there was no smoke at all coming out from the exhaust....perfectly normal and idling sweetly.

Anyhoo. I checked the oil level at lunchtime and it was spot on.
Dunno why the oil light came on like that...... Confused .....oil pump maybe, sensor?

I have been driving the car very gently for the last two weeks....been saving on fuel so have hardly moved the boost gauge needle at all.

Coming home tonight.....fine.....never seen the oil light lit before during driving.....wonder if I'll ever see it again?

The oil is only 2500 miles old. I will change it next weekend as that will be near the 3000 miles by then.

Strange this......anyone else had this?

Pressure or level warning?

Level sensors are known to get sensitive and give false warnings

Level warning Steve.
Prolly right about the sensor. Perhaps another fresh change of oil will help the sensor give a clearer reading.
:D

That level warning sensor is garbage, mine stopped working, it was constantly coming on although the oil level was correct.

I removed the wire from it to get rid of the light.

Is the level warniing a UK only option? I don't think I have one.

You can simply check it when you turn the key to start it. When all dash lights light up to check their function.. You should see an orange oil can with a little wave below. The other one is red without a wave below it.

Ths exactly what I see Rene. The light comes on with all the others then goes out once the engine is started.

Cheers for the replies gents.....at least I've nowt to worry about (although it doesn't mean I won't check the oil if the light did come on again!).
