Just weld up the centre diff and remove the front driveshafts.

Can't help wondering what reason anyone could have for wanting to do that. Buy yourself an S14a and save yourself a massive ball-ache?

There is also the issue of can the transfer box and the rear diff cope with all the power? I don't know.

Sounds like a right pain and better to just buy something RWD as Dave said if that's what you are after.

If you want to stay Toyota the MR2 turbo has the same engine and shares many common bits.

That would certainly be a great project 8) (and absolutely the right way to go about things if you just HAD to have a RWD GT4 imho). You might find that you need a few other bits and bobs though?

New front subframe, massive rework on steering or maybe new steering rack, complete rework of front suspension, custom prop shaft, new (uprated) rear diff if your throwing more than about 350hp at it, etc., etc...

I think the hardest part of turning the engine is you have to deal with the oil sump system. You will likely needs some bits from a altezza or custom made.

I briefly considered this option for my track project but decided it would no longer be a GT-Four. If I'd wanted to go RWD I'd go for a Supra but lots of people have gone down that route. There's no doubt that it would have been simpler to build a Supra from a mechanical point of view. I had lots of GT-Four parts in store so it was really a no-brainer in the end.

Always wondered about this, Just read the build thread on 6gc post above, very interesting. Seems the guy started with an st202.
The ST202 seems a more sensible choice as the amount of "chopping" needed to do an RWD version would almost be sacrilege if it were carried out on a gt Four.

ST202s are ten a penny/cheap, so that's where I'd start, combined with IS200 drive train. If I really planned on such a build I think I would opt to do it on the convertible for extra top down drifty fun. From my point of view I would only want to do a RWD conversion to build a drift car, so there would be a need for a custom steering rack, and having McPherson struts would help with the amount of abuse it could take.

Good to see there are some real precedents out there, but not sure if the modifications would go against BDC regulations etc and therefore make the car unusable for anything other than a track day thrash.

RWD and 2jz swapped. Seems to have started as a 202.

Video.

My understanding is the engine bay from a 2jz car was grafted in place of the stock towers in the front. So its also no longer struts in the front.

Liking that a lot, it has to be just about the best thing that ever happened to an ST202!

Think I'd probably want the shell on a chassis jig if I was going to be doing that amount of modification to the suspension mounts / transmission tunnel, but respect to the guy's who did it :)

I think you are right about a jig, for that kind of work.

I think a better approach for one of us would be to have a subframe made that could hold some frs control arms and steering rack. Then you can order threaded sleeve for most coilover brands in the frs setup and go that route.
