Right just converted my other halfs 185 to a rev 3 engine ecu and gearbox, but the speedo doesn't seem to be working, i have also just noticed the odometer isn't working either, it was running on a 205 speedo drive but was told that i should be running a 185 speedo, so i have change that thinking it would cure my problem but it doesn't, any ideas?

Did you retain the 185 wiring loom ?

On a 205 the speed signal from the sensor goes to the speedometer. The speedometer then has an output which goes down to the ECU speed input.

On a 185, I believe the signal is fed directly to both but difficult to be 100% as the diagrams seem a little hazy. There is a reference to a shorting link on the combination meter diagrams in the following which looks like there is an option to work like the 205.

I'm retaining 185 loom did discover that there was a broken blue wire from the central clock connector which had a purple wire soldered onto it but went no where there were also 2 other wires which had the same thing re soldered wires to correct place but still nothing i'm wondering if it had a speed converter chip thing attached to it and removed, although can't see what this does not work still.

Also discovered that speedo didn't work even when the previous owner had it.

Is the ECU seeing a speed signal ?

Does your last comment imply the speedo didn't work even prior to the 205 swap ?

Yes that is correct it wasn't working before swap, makes me wonder if the clocks have given up.

Only thing you can really do is lift all 4 wheels off the ground and leave it idling in 1st so the wheels are turning, then check for speed signal. It will be pulses swinging between 0V and 5V (I think, if not 12V) which will probably be slow enough to see with a meter at that speed. Tap into the wires if needed by pushing a pin through the insulation into the wire core.

Start by checking at the back of the speedo, if you have signal there but no indication then it's a clock problem. If not, check at the sensor, also checking if no signal there that you have the power & ground to it.

From the sounds of it, it had a converter fitted that wasn't removed properly, ot has packed up.

I managed to kill the plastic (!) speedo gear in the box on my CS, I hope your problem is indeed just the cluster.
