Guys,

My courtesy light's don't work when I open the door, nor does the light shine that surrounds the ignition barrel.
However, if I open the boot then they all work.
Any ideas?

Cheers

Steve

Steve - does it work when you open the passenger door, I'd suspect so.

I would have a look at the switch by the Drivers door...

No, sadly it doesn't Kris.
I did some research and found that I'll need new switches due to a break in the circuit more than likely but I'm not sure which switch/es to get....are they the ones on the A pillar or is it the switch inside the car on the roof lining?

Cheers

Steve

Steve - the ones I was thinking about are on the door shut. Is it worth removing one and testing it to make sure it works ok?

I have had these door pin switches fail on my ST185. They failed in the other way though - i.e always indicating door open and courtesy light on and setting off alarm system that is normally linked to this circuit.

They are located on teh B-Pillar. It is also possible that the interior light switch is faulty.

Another vague possibility is that if y0ou have an alarm system some dodgey installer fiddled with teh circuit and screwed it up.

My passenger one failed about 8 months back and now my drivers side is a bit dodgy too. I think they get dirt/corrosion in the switch itself. My 182 also suffered but I was able to kick that back into life with loads of wd40 into the switch. Alas that ploy hasn't worked on my four.

Also worth noting the 182 I owned was a 92 uk model. The switch came apart, as in you could clean the internals. My 91 uk gt4's don't, they are enclosed units :? Maybe a mod by toyota from 92 onwards?

cheers,

tone

I am going to check the basics 1st. If that fails I suspect it maybe a mistake made by an alarm installer as my remote fob won't lock the car, only arm the alarm, yet it will remotely unlock the alarm..... :?

Cheers for your opinions guys. :)
