Anyone seen the latest track day tyre from Nankang? Not much information around at the moment on performance although have seen some evidence that the performance is close to the Dunlop Direzza 03G.

Fully road legal ('E' marked), although I don't know how they cope with standing water

Prices for: 225/45/R17 £110
: 225/40/R18 £125
(VAT inclusive)

Only one compound and limited sizes at the moment but hope to try some when I wear my 888s out

Hard to understand how it gets it's 'E' mark with that tread pattern but looks wicked imho:

Look interesting, I hope Nankang have now worked out that you don't make tyres from rock hard plastic now though as their old NS-2 was terrible.

There is also the Kumho V70 recently released that seems to be getting some good reviews.

I've no experience of Nankang's run of the mill stuff, but I have been using the NS2-R track tyres and they are unbeatable for the price. The set of Federal FZ201s I had before were £660 and the Nankangs were £268. Wear rate and performance seem similar.

Sounds promising then. Keep us posted if you get some.

A lot of people have been using the street compound on the NS-2R

TREADWEAR index:120 (track*), 180 (street*) and the new 100/80 (race*)

I ve be recommend to get the race treadwear...

I use V70a kumho on a hard compound and they have a treadwear of 80.... I would get faster times if I moved to a medium compund

The AR1 look to offer considerably better dry performance if the comparison with the Dunlop direzza 03g is to be believed. No choice of treadwear at present and more sizes arriving later in the year.

A Nankang employee posted the following about the NS2-R tread wear ratings elsewhere on the web:

The NS-2R is designed to be a fast road / track tyre so wet capabilities
were priority when designing the tyre.

The compound differences and characteristics are as below:

180 - a very compliant compound that works well in dry / wet etc, It can
take a lap or so to warm up however will provide grip needed for the
endurance of your race

120 - the compound is no 'softer' than the 180 however characteristics are
very different. It warms up very fast from the get go, built for sprint
racing more than endurance

100 - the newest compound in the NS-2R range, softer than the other
compounds. Designed to give you optimum grip from the get go however still
provide the longevity needed to finish a race

The number relates to the tread wear rating, the 80 / 100 ratings are the
same compound however they work out at different tread wear ratings because
of the sizes.

I hope the information above helps, let me know if I can help with
anything else at all.

Ben

Interesting info. I'm sure I've read somewhere that Nankangs are popular with the circuit guys. Possibly sprint/drift?
