Yesssss...full access to the gt4dc :D

This is a handy (slightly basic) site detailing fabrication of ic's; I found it very interesting (especially as I am honing my mag and tag skills at the moment  ) and thought ya'll might too

http://toyotaperformance.com/intercooler.htm

Sorry if it has been linked to before

thats a nice find :)

if think if i ever do another FMIC i will have a try at a DIY version...at least then you can really customise the inlet/outlet etc

Interesting link with some sound advice for people looking to fit an air to air intercooler.

Well spotted!

Looks like an interesting project!

TIG is the way forward for this sort of thing imho. The trouble I find with MIG is that you are always putting in filler, sometimes you just want a bit of heat with no filler

Are yuou thinking of replacing the 165 ATA cooler or fitting a FMIC?

Going to go the way of custom FMIC and radiator. Not for a while though, which is handy as I can use the time to improve my welding skills.

The dilema is that I will be dropping a 205 lump in within the next 2 years (so long because I need to do brakes, seats, lightening etc first and save up for ecu, engine rebuild with forgies etc along the way); and I don't want to spend ages fabbing a rad and fmic for optimum fit onto a 165 unit, and then drop the 205 unit in and it not be 'quite right'. I'd rather take my time and get it right...once

...but then with this plan the power is the last quality I achieve, and I want it NOW

I'm in this for the long haul, and the car is no longer going to rust to bits around me, so I will hopefully stick to my plan

Andy,

How have you kept the mesh in place for the front grill?

What performance benefits have you got from the front mount (before after figures would be good if poss)??

lucy, i saw a max of 80f when driving along, dropping slowly but steadily to mid 70s. before hand, with the chargecooler, i would see the lowest temperature of 110f, with an indicated 120f the point where i would back off the boost a little. at the haynes circuit the inlet temps with chargecooler got to 170f before i realised and came off the track!

its really cool to see intake temperatures dropping, with your foot flat on the floor :)

Thats quite a difference then :)

I'd be interested to see how it manages trafic in summer?? Especially some of the jams around the M25 and/or the infamous trip to/from Goodwood for festival of speed!!!!

I used to like watching Penny's intake temps drop by a good 10+ degrees C when the WI activated - always fun!! I'll be glad when we stop working on Kris's 205 and we can start doing stuff on mine.

I got SO much to get on with, I haven't even fitted a boost guage to my 205 as I am running it totally stock still  well I have ONLY had it 2 years!

That's a novel idea :) I know others have investigated activating spray bars etc . . .

Just one question, won't it dispense too much wather tho? Doesn't it have adverse affects if you use too much water? (sorry thats 2 questions! )

the spray nozzles will need to be replaced with some finer mist items
mike has done some research into this and (afaik) decided the hozelock nozzles are good. theyre available in a variety of spray angles and mist density :)

but no, the standard headlight washer nozzle would be absolute crap :)
