What do you guys think?

The sump was removed...
Image

And this was in it!
Image

A large piece of bearing and other "stuff" was in the oil pick up
Image

No.1 big end always seems to die before the others, but this one also died...
Image

A better looking big end, but still requires closer inspection
Image

One of the main bearings, closest to to the oil pump
Image

All of the mains bearings look like they have seen better days!
Image

A close up of one of the mains bearings
Image

And just for good measure No.2 cylinder is toast!

Yuk!......what on earth happened? You took so much care over this engine build too :( ....clearances, oil pressure, priming, ring gapping etc, etc. Something is not right (probably an understatement) Really gutted for you Kris, you must be weeping m8
FWIW I've bitten the bullet and booked my engine into JEMS as I can't risk that sort of carnage with all my special bits.

I think you're tempting fate. If you've got a rattle and metal frags in your new engine looks like it is going the same way as the one in your pics?

oh oops,

that looks like a mess... is that just a spare engine or is that an on going problem with your rebuild?

That looks like it has seen better days; I reckon the sump full of metal frags etc was off the 'spare engine' guys and not the new shiny one...otherwise there wouldn't be a lol emoticon in the first thread

Kris, did you ever run the spare engine, how did it run, what was the mileage, any dodgy mods or high boost etc?

It's another engine, not the one I am currently running...

No I have not run this engine but as the pictures show it wasn't too healthy and would've "banged like a good 'un!"

I suspect a few problems, the biggest one oil, or rather lack of it...

An interesting thought Nigel, I will have a look to see if the revised oil pressure regulator was fitted

Rust...the engine was not running Toyota Red Stuff...

Wonder if this, (rust), would have been a different story if the recommended coolant was used?
