| Post subject: | Anybody Local got some Garden Digging Implements |
I'm going to be digging up half my drive and am in need of borrowing at a minimum a Pick Axe.... Does anyone local to me have one I can borrow? I looked into an excavator/digger but that'll cost me a small fortune because of the bank holiday period. All I have is a Spade and a Fork 
I have a skip arriving Friday. Also, can I bribe anyone to give me a hand... Pizza, Bar-q-que, drink, cash in hand, ....???? |

Hi Nigel, I have access to a pick axe and am happy to offer my services on at least one of the days. (you can borrow the axe for the whole time). Pizza or BBQ will be fine as payment

Nige, I have vast experience of this from my workshop construction efforts! Also most tools but not a mini-digger  Depends what you want to do really but can offer some time next weekend if thats any help. Give me a bell to discuss.

If you're attacking concrete do not use a pickaxe! It's a mugs game that way. Instead get a 6ft hefty spike and a sledge hammer! Lever the concrete up with spike type thing then catch it a gurt smite with hammer'o'doom Not sure if I'm about to help, think it's the Bournemouth sevens this weekend |

If its concrete you'll need to hire a kanga drill or similar. Still hard yakka even with the right equipment. |

What are you trying to dig up nigel? Is this the paving slab/dirt combo at the front or the concrete down the side? Happy to lend a hand and supply a builders bum - I have a fork (for the garden not for dinner  )

Cheers guys much appreciated. I need to dig up the earth to the right-hand side of the drive. (No brick work). I need to go down at least 3" below the brick drive depth in order to lay a membrane, a gravel base followed by builders sand. Then I can lay the paving slabs I have, followed by a glass based sand and then possibly some finer gravel to finish off. This is the same method I used to lay a path out back but on a larger scale. So I really need a hand with digging the earth. I have a wheel barrow, a scaffolding plank, a fork, a spade and a skip. The pick axe would be useful to break the surface of the earth to make it easier to dig out. I'm very aware that its Bank Holiday weekend so if you have plans that's fine. I've got a bit of running about to do Saturday morning so was planning on preparing everything Saturday afternoon (remove paving slabs that are temporarily laid). Then was thinking about a concerted effort on Sunday... possibly finishing off Monday. Aim would be just to get the earth/hole dug. How does that sound? What about Square Pizza's? Also, I'll need to get some bits in including drink - any preferences? |

If you need breakers / big drills, bars, sledge hammers, picks - give me enough warning & I can drop them off. I was out that way yesterday too 
Unfirtunately flat out with work this weekend trying to get stuff ready for the kids to destroy next week. |

I assume the process will be 1) break up soil with pick axe 2) shovel loose dirt out of area 3) get dirt in to skip somehow??? 4) start the rebuilding process. In which case have we got enough shovels and means to get the dirt in to the skip? Do we need wheel barrows or buckets? I cam help on Sunday NP - Monday and I am off to Essex. |

The builders plank I have acts as a ramp into the skip. With a 300 yard run up you can get the full barrow half way up the ramp then fall off the side in a pile of legs, wheels and mud Edited for accuracy |

And plenty of tools by the looks of it.
I can still only bring a fork, pick axe and mabbee some lemon for the G&T so if anyone has shovels or wheelbarrows would be handy. |
