Hi everyone,

Last time I posted here must have been years ago and my first post since then is a bit of a rant and probably a pointless one lol but most are.

My 205 is standard, less than 60k, wrc '94 so its old for a 205.
Runs perfectly although I haven't serviced it for a year and a half.
Boost is 1bar, only mods actually are KYB shocks, tein springs and trd top mounts all round, plus last sunday I fitted the arms and figure of eights so its brilliant to drive now.

The only thing is from round-a-bout to dual carriage an Audi TT (few weeks ago) and today a BMW 328i stayed in front of me during max acceleration.

I feel the car gets too hot when giving it with everything.
I spose charge coolers are not ideal for the dual carriage ways?

I have a large front mount but just need time to work out how to fit it and then fit it lol.

Anyway, hello, I'm sure its the first time anyone has seen me on here.
I did go to one of (if not the) first GT4DC meetings at Brooklands if anyone remembers that far back, I had a lovely ST185 wide body then.

Cheers,
Brendan

lets put it this way, a 205 with 1 bar boost in good nick will leave any tt for dead... like this side of next week dead.

maybe time for a rolling road to see what she goes like?

yeah, thats always a good idea.
Nothing feels wrong, and it was about 30 degrees lol

I'm sure all it takes is a chipped TT to be similar to a 205?
And the 328i look like a bit of a boy so may have not been completely standard.
But unless you run them off the road (and they hopefully survive lol) and ask them, you cant really tell.

Anyone know when the next rolling road down south is going on for you guys?

Cheers,
Bren

still not a chance mate of a tt keeping up, my brothers gtfour when it was standard was quicker than our friends cayman s which is quicker than a tt.

power wise at 1 bar you should be looking at around 280-290bhp maybe.

moons ago at 1.05 bar i ran 305bhp which is far more than the tt and the power delivery of the four is different to that of a bmw, again, a four will out run a m3 so a 328 should be left dead in the water in a flat out run. :S

In a way its good that your clarifying what Im thinking but on the other hand its making me feel worse lol.

Maybe its the heat? Or do they not suffer to much when standard?

I think that anyone that been on the rolling road with a standard car should pop on down for a beer and do a short straight line sprint :)

I might check the compression this week and I really need to do a service, air filter is visually very dirty.

I just thought of something, but it is reaching max boost quickly and it holds.
My recirculating valve is broken and I lost the spring... so.. as im a genius (some may disagree) I have put a SQUASH ball inside as the spring (feels about the same pressure) and then put 2 mini vises on each side to clamp it shut.
Perfect bodge but really need one of thoughs too.

Sounds good thanks very much.
I might add an event myself if there is nothing coming up soon.

Hi Brendan,
Long time no see, seems like forever since we lurched around the banking in a double decker

Let's be honest,

We all love our GT-Fours but..............
New cars have moved on significantly. Most new diesels will leave an unenthusiastically driven standard 4 in a big cloud of stinky fumes. Yes you'll do them in the end but plant your foot in the wrong gear and by the time boost arrives you're out of the game

The same goes for modern turbo cars like the tt. head to head you'll probably win..just. In the real world thier quick spool turbos make it a struggle

The stock 205 is really quite pedestrian in a straight line. Stepping form my stock engined 205 after my modified one is quite an eye opener for how slow stock is

Round the corners things are better though
A well driven four is a very good package, esecially with some tweaks

If i was you i would treat it to the usual pampering that a service gives, you cant expect a 205 to go balsting off and leave other cars for dust if you dont look after it.

if you sit around and eat cakes for a year and then expect to pull .. it aint gunna happen..

Give your car some love and it may well forgive you for your neglect

One of the bloody jubilee clips was loose, the charge cooler to throttle body!
What a knumpty!

Sorted now and I have used aluminium shielding molded round the bottom of the CC.

And I checked the compression and it was:

1. 11
2. 12.25
3. 12
4. 11

So not too bad, well within tolerance and I need a new rocker cover gasket as no:2 and 3 had a fare bit of oil in there before i took out the plugs and a bit of oil went into the cylinder as I couldn't clean it all out so I'm also thinking that may have given 2 and 3 a slightly better seal maybe.

Still needs a service though lol I'll do it next weekend :D

Nice that it was an easy fix. :)

Also a Cayman S has either 295 or 320 BHP depending on when it was built, I can't see a standard 4 ever keeping up with that especially with the 4WD drive train.

A M3 has a minimum of 280BHP unless its an old E30, again through 2 wheel drive I don't see that having many problems with a 4 in a straight line as all three cars weigh about the same.

As robbie said - servicing is key, I am reaping the rewards right now of not being kind to mine for the last year or so - should be back on the road by Wednesday though. :)

Nice cheap fix :-)

To be fair - for road use a mildly tweaked GT4 is an even match for my E46 M3 - A tuned GT4 definitely has more grunt and only with plenty of stirring and when you get above 90 mph does the M3s extra power make it any quicker.
