CCUK is still reasonably active as a community, since it also covers the more common non GT4 models, including the gen7, the GT4 coverage is obviously much less than on here, but seems to be where most who prefer forums have now retreated. There may some merit if it's possible to amalgamate. I think many of the core members still have 4's, values are soaring and spares are dwindling, clubs such as this, ccuk and the others will be invaluable in the future.

One aspect of amalgamating would be what exactly would we be amalgamating? We don't charge anything for membership anymore so anyone is free to join or conversely all our members could join up somewhere else if they wanted to...

The other part of the club would be the data but I can't see that it would be straightforward or that there would be any point in trying to combine our forum and website with another clubs, again its all open access to everyone even if you don't have an account or are not signed in.

FWIW I'm not objectionable to the concept I just don't see any benefits.

Chris makes good points, with the values rising and parts decreasing it will be interesting to see what happens over the next few years.

With regard to site updates.... I've just noticed that on a multi page post that at the bottom of page one. there is a facility to reply but no facility to go to next page! Therefore peeps may not realise there are further posts??? Mind it is early morning and in half asleep!
Scrolling back up there is "next page" at top.
I notice there are 9 guests on line too.
OC only gets me and the odd one checking in but I know that Chris (Bohdi) there is looking for someone to take over ????
EC too have faded and may appreciate an association with a more active GT4 specialist forum???
I shall mention, in a roundabout way, on both sites, that this site is still alive just to see if there is any interest. Watch for a spike in visitors. They are both, like here, free to visit and coppers to gain membership. I'm not sure what benefits membership has actually, as I am one in both but paid nothing for years and years.

I can't see any easy way of doing this, I can only see very difficult ways as the software isn't the same. So even if we did somehow port all the information to one thing it would still have to exist separately and we would either have to start a new combined forum or decide which one of the existing we would use.

The costs isn't that expensive, it's about £10 per month. I've been picking this up myself for quite a few years now so there isn't any cost to the club.

I think I've said this before, I know some people have reservations about Facebook but you don't have to use your real name and can use an gmail or similar email so you don't have to give away personal information. Our Club page on FB has over 1000 likes now, I've often wondered lately if we could effectively take the DC's no nonsense technical approach and make a FB group but there are so many GT4 groups already with some well established I doubt it woul dbe well recieved.

My experience of Facebook is that it exists mainly for exchanges in the present time rather than as any sort of archive. History is held but isn't searchable and only appears at Facebooks discretion (usually at annual aniversaries), as do many current posts. I have trouble finding posts I saw an hour before, never mind weeks, months or years ago. Maybe there are such facilities availble to groups, but I haven't found them in the few groups I've joined.

Yes it can be a pain and lots of people use it like that, in every car group I am in there is endless questions about what oil etc when this has been discussed many times before.

However groups are searchable but it isn't made obvious, if you click to go to the actual page of the group, over on the left hand side just down from the header you should see a little magnifying glass icon, this brings up a search box for searching past posts. It isn't 100% reliable but at least it is something.

I would much prefer people to give it up and come back to forums but I think it is too entrenched to change behaviours.
