I made the decision today to take the 185 off the road until I have properly sorted out the underbody corrosion issues.

Luckily, I was still in the 14day cooling off period for insurance so I haven't had to pay a penalty for cancelling it. 8)
Tax disc goes back tomorrow.

I'm going to use this time to get the bodywork sorted as well, so the four should come back shiny and new! :D

Just need to work out how to get the car 4 feet in the air now, so I can get to work.
Ideally, I'd like to be able to move it about as well, so I may have to weld up some sort of dolly/chassis stand affair.

good luck with the chassis dolly :)

if you have a large enough shed, consider a 2 post ramp? theyre at knock down prices on ebay (but you will need to source a 3-phase convertor [or borrow 2 neighbours electricity supply])

i hope for your sake you will be doing this work inside, its damn hard to weld outdoors with the wind!

Already found one on the 'bay! 8)

Only 560mm lift, but that seems to be all that's available.

Unfortunately, I only have a standard size garage, so no room for a ramp (plus, if I had that sort of money spare at the moment, I'd get someone else to do it! )

So far, I haven't found any welding, but as I have brake lines to do and an LSD to fit, I thought I might as well get it all done in one one go.

New bushes as well, and a diff mount, and the 205 brake conversion, the list goes on.......

One idea I've hed in the past.....

Take one set of decent metal axle stands and a welder

Take an old wheel and mark out the PCD pattern and centrebore on a piece of (say) 6mm steel. Drill appropriate holes to take wheel studs
Weld plate (x4) onto axle stands (x4). BOlting one to each hub will make for a very stable and safe jack. You should be able to get the car quite well up in the air using this method. Those stands are good for a couple of feet if firmly attached to the car.
Not mobile though :(

Nice idea, but I suspect the hubs will be coming off as part of the project.

My folks used to have a 21ft boat that would winter on a trailer. To get it off the trailer they had a couple of lifting beams that slung underneath - it would get jacked up, pop in the pins to hold the beam, lift up the jack platforms and repeat until it was clear - the thing could probably get 5 ft off the ground if needed. Don't know if something along those lines would be of use :?

I won these on the 'bay last night. 8)

Fortunately, it doesn't include the green rustbucket.
Up to 530mm lift, but I'm sure that can be increased with a little ingenuity.

I'd like one of these, but I don't have that sort of money kicking around. :(
