Since I've got a bit of clonking from the rear when I let off the accelerator at higher revs, I think it's time for a diff mount replacement/upgrade.

I've read about alloy ones, custom filled stockers and I know C-One makes one (this baby).

What's the biggest advantage of a metal/alloy one? I assume all vibrations are directly transmitted to the chassis then and thus make the ride a bit harsh? If the only big advantage is the fact that you never need to replace it again, then Ill get the C-One. Is a alloy one worse for the chassis too (compared to rubber)?

Any other Jap options known other the C-One btw?

Cheers, Rene

Rene - don't know of any others apart from stock, solid ally and the C-One jobbie.

Personally I think fitting a solid ally mount is bad news.

This allows for no flex in the drive train and all shocks and vibrations has to be taken up by both the transfer box, the prop and the rear diff.

The additional noise is a secondary problem imho, I'd be concerned that "something" won't last very long...

Tend to agree with Kris. Some people have fitted solid subframe bushes and regretted it as it transfers all the vibration etc. into the interior of the car. If it was me I'd go for the C-One mount. With any luck it will be like the uprated TRD subframe, engine mount and suspension bushes so is a good compromise for a road car.

Rene,

why not weld up your old one?

easy fix! so why not give it a try and see if you notice any difference in ride/noise/vibration:

then decide on its replacement...

Thanks for your opinions guys 8)

Gary, I've read about that too, but that gives me the same concerns as with an alloy one; more stress on other parts. I know I don't drive an Avensis, it's a rally monster  so vibrations and noise are part of the deal, but with my EDFC set at the softest position and no rear seats (prep. for cage) I have those vibrations and noise already. (Hi-Power @ 3k rpm = nice drone) I don't want a car I 'hate' to drive in terms of comfort.. Should stay nice but sporty.

I guess the C-One is the one to get..

no rear seats

yep ;) even when stock, i noticed a big noise increase without rear seats.

as i said, its certainly worth fixing if you know a welder. you can see for your self about the drone etc.....then buy its bling replacement.... be it toyota, c-one, mario etc.

p.s what spring rates are you using on your tein coilovers?
how much travel do you get before the coil springs become spring bound?

Beej & Tangcla are running Alumnium mounts mate, I'll ask them on there opinions. I remember tangcla said vibration increased, but its not that bad at all.

Im running without rear seats also, the noise is pretty bad, blasted trd 1.5way rear diff is loud!

Got my 'C-One Sports Diff cushion' today. Once again perfect service from Greenline - I sent the money 6 days ago!

Interesting to see how this compares against the stock unit e.g. vibration

looks like a very nice bit of kit, hope this upgrade works well. I was just wondering whether movement in the diff mount also puts stress on the drive train ?
I have a solid alloy mount and although the car is loud anyway but if i recall when i fitted it my car was very close to standard and i never really noticed any increase in road noise. my rear diff is the only thing that has not gone yet  .
Admittedly if i had knew about the c-one mount i would of gone for that one.

I fitted the C-One today.

I was able to use the 2 post lift at my mates work, which makes this mod a LOT easier I guess. I don't want to think about the idea of doing this with the car on the ground.. :? To get the old diff mount out, the diff needs to be moved forward and slightly downwards a bit. First step was to soak a total of 14 (!) bolts in WD40:

Image

There it is, the stocker (unbolted already in this pic):

Image

While unbolting the diff itself, I noticed the holes in the diff case are significantly larger than the bolts which go through it. Therefore I marked the diff and chassis to prevent vibrations (and stress in the drivetrain) caused by a wrongly aligned diff later on:

Image

With the help of an extra support we lowered the diff a little bit so I could wiggle the stock mount out over the diff.

OEM vs. C-One (Looks nice and beefy):

Image

Next up; slide the C-One mount in, raise the diff and bolt all parts up again. The new mount in place:

Image

And what a difference it makes! When I lift off the throttle when driving, there are no nasty clunks and weird sounds anymore. All good for the next couple of years and km's! 8)
