Sorted.....filed a groove into the stud...enough for a flathead screwdriver.....a good soak in a bath of wd40 and 2 hours later...screw the stud out of the nut. sorted.
diff now replaced and quiet as anything. 8)
boy was my old diff knackered. the propshaft flange could hardly be turned at all....

Steve - what are you doing with your old diff?

If you are ditching it then I'd like first refusal for the sake of investigation/knowledge purposes!

Thanks Karl.
It was a family affair with myself, my dad, uncle and cousin (he's a lex vauxhall master technician but knows his stuff) all helping out....we all did our bit here and there......and as it was family...free of charge.
Nice fish n chip dinner and a beer to celebrate a good days work.
getting the nuts n bolts undone was the hardest bit... otherwsie it was really straight forward. :)

By all means Kris you are welcome to my old diff . It does turn alright but the bearings are grinding together so a repair is needed.
Not sure how I can get it to you....it weighs loads as you prolly know...

Kris....sorry mate but my Dad has said he wants to rebuild the diff so we're going to keep hold of it for now.
When he comes to rebuild it I'll deffo get a photo 'How to ' guide done....this could be beneficial to many people across the OC's.

Steve - no problem, hope it can be repaired :)

Lots of pics would be great, and a "How To..." guide would be even better :D
