Jeez...any of you ever done this and willing to offer some advice? I have searched the net for related information for the last hour or so and found nothing :?

Trev at TCB reckons it is a real PITA and worth getting a pro in as it involves cutting the old one out and using sealant to hold the new one in, but I am keen to have a go.

I would never try and do a front or rear windscreen, but one of the small rear quarter ones can't be that hard...can it?

Cheers all :)

I have no experience of this but I think it would be a specialist job, your going to need a new seal and some special sealant I would have thought.

Driving with the windows open probably puts a fair amount of pressure on the rear glass, I would just pay to have it done.

My 2p.

I know the Great has a few bolts through the glass aswell, Just check that first before you smash it to pieces :D

tiger seal, which can be bought from any bodyshop or maybe even motorfactors :)
removing the rear window is a piece of cake:)

remove all the rear trim so the entire window glass is exposed. undo the (afaik) 3x10mm bolts holding the glass to the chassis and then cut the black adhesive strip with a piece of cheese wire or similar. take care as you dont want to break the window, but its not as fragile as a windscreen

I thought the quater windows were just bolted in?
Or is it different for 165.185.205's?

In the 165 they are both bolted and sealant fixed, I reckon that is likely the case for all models?

Cheers for the advice andy, I had a look this afternoon and reckon it should be a do-able job with the right gear. When you say the rear trim do you mean the exterior trim or the interior trim...ie do I remove the window away from the car or into the car?

It is kind of a mute point as the window will likely fall apart when I exert any amount of force (well it won't as I have it all held together with heat reflective tape), but I don't want to damage any exterior trim if I do not need to remove it. I am hoping it will be obvious how to put the new one in once the old is removed and the area cleaned up...but if you know how please do tell :)

You can all expect a 'how to replace rear quarter window' guide in the next few days lol

You could try PM'ing madgaz on the OC or EC or on here if he's on here.
He's recently stripped his old 165 shell right down before having it collected so there is a good chance he'll be able to tell you.

its "moot" ;)
i did mean the interior trim, although you may need to remove the exterior, or you may be able to pull the glass out with brute force without breaking the trim

the rear trim isnt glued in place, its held in by push fit clips and slotted behind the corner sections of the trim, at least thats how i remember it*

Job done...feeling pretty satisfied with myself. Took about 4 hours all in, and was pretty much just as andycaca suggested above; do need to remove the exterior trim as well though. Here are some piccies if anyone is interested: -

The sealant was nearly £20 on its own, but is the stuff used for windscreens by the pros so is the 'real deal'. Cheaper stuff was available but was apparently not as strong an adhesive

The true test will be tomorrow when I jet wash the car :?

Thanks guys 8)

I got the sealant from a place called Marghams Stores on the island: -

http://www.touchportsmouth.com/business/list/bid/903333

They are a pro body shop with an attached retail unit. I have used them for a lot of good stuff; the really sticky double sided tape that holds on body trim, the sealant I used today, Multisol (an awesome solvent for cleaning paintwork that deals with tar spots etc with ease yet leaves the paintwork untouched) etc. They are not cheap but I have not found better...and all of the local valeters use their stuff as well which says a lot

Having done the job I can fully appreciate why it is relatively expensive to get a static window replaced

Hope all is good for the jet wash test!

Be sure to do a write up this is exactly the 'one off' sort of thing others will find useful :)
