Could it be what i think it is - turbo oil seals?

Turbo oil seal is normally characterised by excessive smoking at idle, when my cars seals failed the smoking was pretty severe, billowing out the back.

Rob, if your engine is putting out blue smoke on boost its unlikely to be turbo seals unless it also displays the symptoms Mike has described. Most likely cause is worn rings/pistons/guides especially as you are still running stock internals. This should also be characterised by excessive crankcase pressurisation with oily deposits in the catch can and induction system ....assume you are still running with the breather recirculating to the induction side? One or more of the spark plugs should be brown or oily as well if this is the case.

ive checked the plugs and they are brown but not oily, the breather appears to be fairly clear, i've not done a leak down test or pressure test yet, i was really hoping that it wasnt a turbo problem - i know this is the cheaper route but a rebuild was what i am looking to do - on mutley or another import?

there is no bad smoke billowing out the back on idle only on high boost. the oil level is dropping very quickly though

I'd get a leak down test done as this should reveal any cylinder problems.....maybe now you'll have the excuse to rebuild your engine with forgies etc.
