Im just about to buy an engine stand (unless someones got one they want to sell?) how much does the engine weigh and is there any special considerations when buying an engine stand?

Cheers
Rob

Robbie buy as long a reach as possible. You might also want to get a "load leveller" the lifting hooks will thank you fit it, as well as making the job a little easier.

Block + Head + Crank = 40+20+20 = 80kg, so say 100kg minimum for a complete engine.

Gearbox ~90kg

A fair figure I reckon would be ~250kg for a complete engine and box.

Damn, just realised you didn't ask for a crane, but a stand! Get the 3 leg version from Machine Mart, don't go for the 4 leg one as it won't fit between the common engine crane legs. :)

suprisingly cheap too at £32. hardly worth making my own at that price!

Block + Head + Crank = 40+20+20 = 80kg

almost sounds liftable...reach in, grab and hoik it out...save going to weights later

i suppose oily, bashed and scraped hands coupled with the prior 3 hours of swearing whilst removing the ancillaries wouldn't help much

By the time you have all the pistons rods, brackets & guff it is a lot heavier than that. two people can just lift it. I would suggest it is more like 140KG
