I have a water leak on my car :(

It's coming from where the silicon top hose meets the water elbow.

Wierd thing is that I moved the hose to reseat it then tightened the jubilee clip again and its still leaking although less now.

Do jubilee clips fail over time? I guess all I can do is replace the clip and if that doesn't work then replace the hose?

Thoughts anyone?

Clips don't fail as such. If they do they fail it's in a won't do up fashion that I'm sure we're all familiar with lol

Silicon hose doesn't generally "fail" although it is often more crushable than regular hose. This does mean that it can effectivly shrink a little more in the jubilee clip causing a loose joint. Couple this effect with, something like, oh I don't know, a TRD 1.2bar rad cap :D :D and you have a potential for a leak

If it's been weeping a while then it's quite possible that it won't reseal until you remove the hose and wire wool the crud buildup from the elbow ;)

If that fails then get down to your local plumbers merchant and buy a tube of LSX. Smear this sparingly on the elbow before fitting the hose to create a watertight seal (it's like soft silicon bath sealer) that you can still break to get the hose off :)

The jubilee clips that have the screw thread incised into the metal band are better than the perforated types which can distort quite badly if overtightened. Also, the OEM wire clips are supposed to be best of all but they don't look as attractive as a nice shiny jubilee 8)

You often find that the aluminium stub pipe can oxidise into large lumps where the hose may weep coolant slightly and over time this can cause a leak. Make sure the stub pipe is nice and free of corrosion and the clip is in good condition and this should fix your leak.

Kerplink!

Turns out it was actually the Silicon hose that had a small tear in it.

Sorted now temporarily but will have to get some more hose to do a proper replacement.

Cheers for the help folks :)
