hello ladies and gents :)

i changed my fuel tank a while back as the original had a very rusty filler neck that I couldn't seperate from the tank

ever since doing it the car leaks petrol out of the filler cap when the tank is above 3/4 full,,,particularly it seems when the car has been sitting in the sun

the tank (from tcb) came with a plastic filler cap that kind of ratchets tight, if you know what I mean (it is a mechanism I think to stop you overtightening the cap) whereas the one on the old filler neck was a simple metal jobbie that you could tighten as much as you had strength

i suppose i am asking has anyone had and cured this problem, or does anyone have a spare filler cap i could purchase

cheers folks

I also have the ratchet cap (stock?) and found some petrol under the tank a week or so ago. That was also during a hot day though with the tank filled for about 102% the night before.

aaah...perhaps the jdm 165 came with the metal cap and the 'others' (is yours a non-jdm gt4) came with the ratchet type? I'll try tcb a little later :)

Ratchet cap here too. Pretty sure that was stock

Does it leak when stationary or only when moving? Sounds like there's a seal somewhere that needs replacing. Neck to tank and neck to cap would be favorite suspecs although there's a breather somewhere in that neck (sic) of the woods too

Maybe a nice liesurely smoke while inspecting would shed some light

it leaks when stationary...there is a stain below the filler flap that often appears having been parked.

mot in the next few weeks so no full tank for a while lol

I also had the same thing in my 165, but a little more extreme. Came home to find petrol all over the road. When I undid the cap it p***ed out probably faster than I can put it in at the pump. Filler neck was shot as were some of the other fuel pipes around the pump. . . .
££££ ouch....
god bless old cars hey???

you are right there fella...wouldn't have anything else though 8)

This is what I was seeing that led me to change the tank and filler neck...looks much better now though

I'm not too worried about the leak out of the filler cap to be honest...anywhere else and I would sort it very quickly. I just wondered if it was a problem dealt with before :)

sorry, forgot to say that mine is being fixed as we speak (been down the pub :D ). as soon as I have the answer, I'll let you know. Suspicion is a blocked breather pipe which causes the tank to pressurise, especially during hot weather..
