Does anybody know a good way of cleaning the internals of the top mount WTA intercooler tank? Mine was heavily contaminated with engine oil as a result of my engine blow-up last year. I guess I could use petrol but all suggestions are welcome :)

personally I woudl let is soak in a bath of degreasant first - then a bath of petrol/parafin.

Repeat each process for a period of 24-hours until it is definitely clean.

Maybe even consider blowing it out with an air compressor.

Remember to seal up the pipes to the water ways first. :)

Otherwise as JP suggested.

Do you know anyone with a bodyshop?

A couple of hours on the paint mixer would be the absolute best cleaning session I could think of :D

Slightly more seriously, 1/2 fill it with 2* and throw it in the car next time you go out for a drive! Remember the old bush washing machine? ;) Pipes will need to be well sealed though :D
Don't forget the ac idle up one on the back. I did :(
Oh, and if you're wondering, petrol eats rubber gloves so don't cable tie one over the turbo in/outlet like I did

I'm going to take mine out soon and I'm going to clean it too.. So some petrol in it, shake and let it out, repeat untill it stays clear is what I need to do?

That's what I'm planning on doing. Just make sure that you leave it for a day or two to ensure there's no trace of fuel left when you refit it

i just used petrol, ran it through till it came out clear, the just got rid of the vapours by letting it stand for an hour then by taking a match to the opening to burn of any excess, its only the vapours that will catch if theres any left, petrol evaporates quite quick when left somwhere warm.

The great thing about using petrol to clean it out are the remnant fumes that hang around inside - when they make it in to the intake you get an extra kick the first time you plant it after putting everything back together  8) It was the most fun part of the whole process last time I did it

Cheers,
Mark

soak completely in automotive degreaser agitate plenty, use compressed air cleaning gun with solvent cleaner, blow though many times, soak loads, pressure wash many times

I recommend cleaning the water ways too.

Compressed air & pressure washer, automotive cleaner, soaking tank., time

petrol is a good cleaner..

Make’s a difference, they sure get a little mucky, especially these ST205’s, every degrees centigrade counts.

Even more! After the 5th time I thought that's all I could get in terms of what looked like clean petrol.. But I decided to give it another go and saw the petrol I poured out getting more and more clear. I flushed 15 times total iirc, but the first few times I used to less petrol; like 1/4 cup (I poured them together in the 1st cup on the left). All other flushes I used a full cup to flush with. The outer right cup contains clean petrol, the one next to it is what I got out the last time when my arms felt like they'd come off while dieing of petrol vapours :D
