Hi all :D

Work was a little slow today, so I thought I would check the timing on the car...it is between 6 and 7 degrees btdc.

I am going to rectify this tomorrow...but was wondering what effect this state of timing will have on the car...I am guessing loss of performance and poor fuel economy?

I think when I changed the dizzy/rotor/cap etc a few months ago I might have forgotten to bridge T & E1 when checking the timing was right after doing the job

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Karl

3-4 degrees is a fair bit - you will certainly feel a difference once sorted. I suspect maybe a 15bhp increase which will probably be circa a 10% increase on a poor running old car :-)

Certainly worth doing m8

talk about a nicle little job turning into a nightmare

not only did I shear one of the bolts re-torquing it to 39NM, but I have also found a load of oil under the dizzy cap :(

I remember this not being a 'good thing', but cannot remember the details or find any info on the search...does anyone know what oil under the dizzy means?

Have a new dizzy and rotor on the way so that I can do a full swap this weekend...car currently off road as there is only one bolt holding the dizzy on at the moment :?

The dizzy is sealed to the head by an O ring. "Simply" undo the 2 securing bolts and pull the dizzy out from the head. Fit a new O ring and push the dizzy back in.

Note the dizzy mates to the inlet camshaft, and it can be aligned one of 2 ways, just make a note of where the rotor arm is pointing before you remove it. :)

I have a complete 165 dizzy if you get stuck

Well...that's all sorted now :) Thankfully the sheared bolt left a 3-4mm protrusion that I could oil/mole grip out...lucky beggar

The car picks up a lot better; the difference is noticable with regard both power and smoothness...almost like a free upgrade lol
