As per title really, I am sorting the 205 out and am planning to purchase the following: -

spark plugs - 4 x bkr7e

oil filter, leads, rotor arm, dizzy cap, cambelt, power steering belt, alternator drive belt - standard toyota

insulation material for tmic - fensport

panel filter - blitz (fensport)

boost gauge - http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ ... PC150206US

oil - silkolene pro s 10W 50

Once I have done these I will look at an aussie 3" dp, and likely a 2.5" ss zorst...probably followed by a new turbo when the lack of back pressure causes the seals on the existing one to 'go' lol

So, have I missed anything for these first few servicing mods? Should I replace any pulleys etc?

All help much appreciated :)

Probably worth changing the cambelt tensioner at the same time, along with the pulleys, I think Kris can help out with the pulleys, the tensioner is Toyota part.

List looks good and Mike's comments will help your pocket! Defo replace the pulleys they WILL be worn

BLitz filter - is that a stainless mesh jobbie? If so I'd fit something else...

The only other thing I can think of is an ACT (Air Charge Temp) gauge to keep an eye on plenum temps and hence reduce the chance of detonation. These are available from http://www.randbmotorsport.co.uk/

Kris. the Blitz panel filter on Snow White is a microfibre job NOT stainless ;)

Regarding replacing the pulleys. Is this not dependent on the use to which the car will be put? I can't see how pulleys 'wear' unless the bearing eventually lets go. My engine had done over 100k and it was fine.

There is a bearing within the pulleys which wears. This manifests itself as increasing amounts of slop in the bearing, noisy running especially when cold and then eventual failure. My humble advice would be to change them along with the cambelt, it's just not worth not changing them imho :)

One of my bearings had become noisey when I first changed my cambelt, you could clearly hear and feel the wear when rotating it.

So what sort of noise does a noisey pulley make?

Just a grindy sort of noise that you can hear when turning it manually, The noise was not sufficently loud to be heard over the engine when the car is running.

The rollers do get noisey when old admittedly,
but i must say from personal experience of 10 years with toyota i've not yet seen a failed to destruction roller.
seen plenty of worn water pump bearings lead to failure and timing belt destruction though

Karl - there are 2 pulleys to change, the "tensioner" and "idler". Both are straight forward to change.

Note that I recommend both of the are correctly torqued and threadlocked...in fact I'd recommend that for the tensioner too.

Drop me a PM if you want a pair of pulleys and we'll talk business :)

Thanks guys :)

I'm going to run the car up to Notts for Ian to do this; I want to know this job in particular is done properly!

Would it be worth replacing the water pump as well...if so is Toyota the best source price and quality wise?

Cheers

Karl

Possibly. I think most people don't as there's got to be a line drawn somewhere on parts to replace as part of routine maintenance.

Personally I wouldn't replace the pump unless the engine has covered say 100k+ miles.

Personally I wouldn't look anywhere else than Toyota, it's just not worth it imho :)

Since ll the covers re off I'd certinly remove the wter and oil pumps for visual inspection. It they look fine then refit them or replace if necessary

I'd also look into fitting a nice new, updated, oil pressure regulator since this is a cheap part
