Since ll the covers re off I'd certinly remove the wter and oil pumps for visual inspection

What!! Simply remove the oil pumps! Lol! Look forward to the "simple" removal how to guide! And also the location for the extra oil pumps...been drinking Steve?!?

I'd also look into fitting a nice new, updated, oil pressure regulator since this is a cheap part

I'd agree with that, especially since the regulator design has been revised, and the new one is easy to replace and cheap!

I never said simply lol

It's going to be a pain in the proverbial but that's Ian's problem right ;)

With the covers off it just seems like the right time to do it, especially if the oil is being changed at the same time :D

A slight understatement!
Front exhaust section requires removal/shoving out of the way - if you still have the cat this may require the cat removing...

Both parts of the sump need removing - noting the positions of all the ~30 odd nuts, bolts and socket caps. Oil scraper plate and oil pick up removed, fit new pump with lip seal, (noting to transfer the cambelt retaining pin from old to new pump), fit 2 new pump to sump o-rings, new sealant applied correctly around both parts of the sumps and it's good to go, (post oil priming which is no mean feat!).

Does anybody have a part number for the updated oil pressure regulator, the fella at Toyota isn't too sure he has ordered the correct part :)

You need the regulator 15310-88460 £19.51 and the gasket 15318-88460 £3.21

Undo the 2 bolts and lever free from the sump, oil the o-ring on the new regulator and slide back into the sump :)

Hi,

About the updated oil pressure regulator... Is there a similar revision for the 2nd gen 3sgte? Also, would someone happen to have a picture of where its located in relation to the oil filter?

Thanks

Corey

with the rev 2 3sgte, the pressure reg in an internal affair with regards to the pump.
you need to remove the oil pump to fiddle with it.

No, it's as Pete says :)

Have heard of guys either replacing the relief valve spring or shimming it to increase the pressure.

It's nowhere near as easy to fiddle with as on the 205 :(

Note that the oil system was heavily revised on the 205, there is a different oil pump, different pulley, different sump and relocated oil filter :)

Gotcha, i wont worry about it then, Thanks :D

On a side note....

Are there any write ups on how to change the Crank shaft seals? front and rear?

Front seems pretty straight forward - just remove the crank gear, pick out the old seal, press new one in....

But for the rear... not to sure how to go about that one. I'm replacing my clutch/flywheel so ill have access to it, just not sure how to change it.

Thanks :D

Corey

Not that I've seen.

Front - as you say, you need to remove the cambelt to get access to it and it can be replaced in situ.

Rear - gearbox needs to be removed as does the clutch and flywheel. The seal is retained within an aluminium housing/outer that is bolted to the block. You could lever the seal out from this and gently tap in a new one - this wouldn't be a job for the faint-hearted!

I've seen a pic of the rear seal, and i noticed alot of red sealant compound oozing out of the plate you mentioned.

So, once that plate is removed, and all the old sealant removed, and the surface cleaned - I just pick the old crank seal out, press the new one in, then re-apply new sealant to the plate, and bolt it up again?

What kind of sealant is that stuff? Is it available from toyota?
And what would be the best way of cleaning the surface after the old stuff is removed, as to provide the best chance of not leaking?

Thanks

Corey

That sounds wrong. iirc Toyota makes a gasket for this plate that seals this against the block correctly.

From memory the seal is maybe £3. You could use a sealant but I would prefer to use the original design ion this instance.

there is indeed a fibre gasket that goes between the seal housing and the block. the bottom will require sealant between the housing and the sump assy

if it was me i'd change both the gaskets.

Both gaskets? there are more than one? besides the fibre one mentioned between the plate and engine?
