Put the car (which is a 92 JDM 185RC) away for 2 weeks and just got back, went in fired up the car no problem drove out the garage and left it to idle for a while then stopped the car and went back inside.

Later came out to go somewhere started the car and pulled away.
now the good bit.

It seem that when i try to accelerate at above 4000rpm the car developes kangaroo petrol and startes bouncing on the clutch as if the power is being quickly turned on and of.
When I rev the car it seems to rev up to 6000rpm alright.

Somtimes if I'm careful I can get the boost gauge to read up to 8 psi.

I am thinking this could either be the turbo or the AFM but was wondering if any body else had, had this sort of problem, or could give me an idea of where to start or how to test if it is the turbo acting up.

Cheers

I take it the car is fully up to temp when this happens, the reason I say is when I got mine it had no thermostat in it and gave me the same sort of symptoms. Hope you get it sorted soon. D

At a guess the AFM has seized up due to non use

Should be quite simple to whip off the filter and give the flap a tweak to chech it's moving freely

Have tried that and it's moving freely, as a matter of fact the minute you open it a bit the car die's.

Also no error codes showing.

One thing I did notice is when it is parked and I rev the car the boost gauge will not come up to zero it stays in - pressure no matter how much I rev the car. Not sure if it did that before or not.

That's probably to be expected as there's not really enough load to generate sufficient exh gas to spin the turbo
I recall people saying they could generate boost by repeatedly stabbing at the pedal in neutral but it doesn't sound like a nice thing to do to the car

How much fuel was in the car when you left it?
If it was nearly empty then the fuel degrades quite rapidly although this is definitely a clutching at a very short straw in a very dark room idea

Is it making boost when it's kangarooing? It could be the WG has stuck and you keep hitting fuel cut

No error codes at all.

Car idles fine could leave it idleing all day and even drives fine until I try to acclecerate to over 4500 rpm then it just starts jerking along, although it does feel a wee bit slugish when accelerating lower down.

have check the acuator and that is moving freely it's an uprated one so dosen't open till 10psi.

It is making boost just before it starts but only about 8psi, fuel cut will cut all boost and you have to reset the ECU to clear it.

It sounds like this could be ignition related.

When were the plugs, leads, rotor arm and dizzy cap last changed?

Well took the car over to Iain,s and checked the map in the emanage found that it was baddly overfueling after setting up the emanage again car seems to be running fine.

Will take the chance and chage the plugs & rotor arm

You might have had some decent valid input if you had mentioned you did not have standard engine management!

You can probably ignore that suggestion if you are at the aftermarket ECU stage...

Around 4,500RPM? The TVIS opens around then might be worth checking all your hoses etc or disconnecting it completely. I'm just wondering if your butterflies might be fluctuating when the TVIS is being activated. Just a thought, Dorris

To be honest at the time I didn't think it was an overfueling problem, again thanks to those who offered advice.

Did the battery go flat or something?

Can't quite figure out what would have screwed the e-manage settings. AFAIK the map is stored in flash and should be un-effected by that sort of thing. Do you have the PC lead to see what's happening in there?

Doesn't the emanage have its setting stored as "twisty" type pots on the emanage case?

If so then it'll be easy to change the settings for the fuelling/ignition accidentally, hell a temperature change would do that! :(
