I have a cracked wheel :(

Can it be repaired.

I spoke to Wheel Repair Centre (aka Mysh) and they have the kit to weld ally so they say they can repair it.

But I spoke to Spit 'n' Polish closer to home and they say that a cracked and repaired wheel ain't safe. They consider any cracked rim to be condemmed.

What do you reckon. I prefer the idea of a new rim but if a repair is fine then it's not worth the extra moneys.

Are Spit 'n' Polish just sayin that cos they can't do the repair work?

Probably what you're thinking but don't want to hear - I'd ditch the wheel.

After all the wheel is subjected to all sorts of fantastic forces and if it ever failed it would be when it was subject to the highest stress when you were relying on it the most...

That was the way I was thinking. But I tend to go overkill on such things and thought maybe it could be made 100% safe.

My plan is to scrap my cracked one, have the buckled one straightened and use it as a spare wheel, and buy 2 new ones for the dayly grind.

Alloy wheels that have a high ratio of magnesium do not like being welded nor being bent back true... you are probably better off buying new ones

How much magnesium should I expect to find in my OZ SuperTurismos then?

Judging by their weight, not much!!

As hard as it is, I'd ditch the wheel...at least your new one will be nice and shiny!

I have had alloys de-egged but I'd personally never get a crack repair
