My passenger side mirror stopped retracting ages ago and I bought a replacement off a breaker on the OC. When it turned up the triangular part that fits to the car had snapped due to bad packaging. So I left it sitting in the corner for years.

I finally got round to having a play with it this afternoon. Removed the bracket to find you can't get it all the way off without cutting the cables. which I didn't fancy cos I can't find my crimping tool to reconnect them

Next idea was to try and replace the broken cog using the replacement as a donor:

Got the donor stripped apart and only broke one part. Got the original apart with no breakages :)

Swapped the cog

Reassembled the original with the new cogs in place

Put it back on the car

IT STILL WON'T WORK!!! :x:x:!:

Not happy is an understatement.

Anone got a working JDM black passenger mirror for sale? :D

I was all ready to write up a guide to fixing this as well

I guess guides work better if it results in a working solution :)

So the problem is more than a broken cog? Is the motor functioning or is everything as still as a Halloween graveyard?

Motor works fine. It won't retract but it'll still go out again under it's own steam.

I had the exact same problem on my 202 but since that was in my pre-owners club days I paid over £200 for a replacement!

I'm fairly sure that it's still the same cog. There's one plastic cog and one plastic wormdrive thingy but the rest is all metal and looks pristine.

Problem is the way it's put together the second you take the lid off they're all loose to move so it's very hard to tell where the loose link is.

I'll have another go at investigating when I can be bothered...
