Im going to replace my brake lines as mine are starting to perrish. It looks like under the rubber surround that these are already braided.

Question is - are they braided as standard, if they are i will replace with standard issue :-)

Hi Robbie - as far as I know m8 the stock ones aren't braided no. Fennies do a braided hose kit or you could get a good garage/shop to make you up a set using BF Goodridge parts for about the same using the stockers as templates - thats how mine were done.

Cheers,
Mark

the stock flexi hoses do have a braid reinforcing within the hose.

they are not as good or the same as fully braided hoses though.

Someone actually does them off the shelf. Possibly Goodridge?

Goodridge do them but they do not have the mounting brackets to guide the hose around the superstrut, nor does it have the calliper locating lug on the calliper bango fitting... :(

fensport do them, ive fitted a set before and i wasnt overly impressed with the way they fitted together and the routing they took, seems they could of been made and routed better.

Unfortunately the braided stuff uses olive type end connections which seem to fail quite quickly if you have to bend to the hose. Mine leaked on my St185, Mikes leaked on his St205. Personally I woudl replace with new stock or get some custom made crimped & swaged jobbies.

why has no-one just made a single piece brake hose from the hard pipe at the top of the inner wing all the way to the calliper?

i cant see its being difficult, replace the banjo bolt in the caliper with an adaptor to fit a JIC fitting or similar the it would route away from the caliper and wheel and go up towards the hard pipe at the top.

I would agree with Steve's comments on the braided hose kits. The simplest solution is to fit new OEM hoses. I've had the braided hoses on my blue ST205 for 2-3 years and had no trouble with leaks although the clear plastic over-sleeve had pulled out from the coupling and started to split. The other problem was corrosion of the brackets :( . I did speak to Adrian about this but he said they'd be too expensive to make with stainless brackets. IMO unless you are planning to track your Four the braided lines will not give you any real benefit.

I know some people who have replaced the OEM lines with stainless steel braided but the issue is maintaining clearance from the strut and wheel under all combinations of steering lock and suspension movement. If adequate clearance is not maintained then this could result in an MOT failure. I would guess this is why Fennies had them made with the standard brackets.

well i replacedmine with stock oem parts and when i go on the odd track day ive had no issues with totally standard brake parts so i cant realy complain about the quality of the oem bits.

thanks for the feeback people - i did have a braided set on the old 4 from fennies. I i'll be renewing this time with stocks though.

It does look like inside them that these ones are braided though - maybe just reinforced with something other than wire?

Possible that they are constructed like fuel hose with a thread/fabric type reinforcement?

yea, as i said when i fitted em, they coulf been better thought out, but if yours are still going fine with no probs thens thats good, but giving them a check would be good.

std hoses are internally braided with a fabric of some type, then have an outer rubber hose as a cover, the outer is normallty the one cracks and splits.
