OK...so I'm looking at getting new tyres. I have a set of JDM OZ Chronos 8Jx16 
Standard size on the 205 is 215/50x16. Don't appear to have much choice in this size...could only find Bridgestone 
The aspect ratio 'should be' +/- 2.5%. I assume that I will need a speed rating of X, Y, Z. I wanted to go for 235/45x16 but can't find any tyre in that size 
So what do I go for?: 225/45x16 225/50x16 245/45x16 Answers on postcard to..... |

you should have spoken to me yesterday m8 I have just fitted kumhos to mine they do 215 /50 /16 they fit the ford puma aswell got mine from taunton tyres they were much better on price.Yhey seem to be good in wet and dry http://taunton-tyres.co.uk/ |

I have used 225/45/16 and 225/50/16 (on standard wheels in comparison to 215/40/17 & 225/40/18 on aftermarket wheels). Personally if I were after tyres for a daily drive car on 16" I would go for the 225/50/16s as the ride was compliant, offered a fair bit of protection of alloys from major pot holes and with a decent brand tyre gave good grip with progressive handling. Going lower profile may give you better "turn-in" due to less tyre wall flex but all of the other parameters woudl be worse. |

Thanks for your replies guys. Terry - which Kumho's are they? I was talking to a guy (Steve Wheeler) in the pits with a 185 last year at Rally Day and he highly recommended the Kumho Ecsta tyres over the Proxes T1-Rs (which surprised me). Having said that the 205 is a different beast. Options I have found so far (that is, not exceeding £70 per tyre): 215/50x16 Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 £68.70 Kumho Ecsta KU21 £68.70 225/45x16 Kumho Ecsta KU31 £56.70 Falken ZE912 £59.00 Toyo Proxes T1-R £65.80 Falken FK452 £65.90 225/50x16 Kumho Ecsta KH11 £51.00 Kumho Ecsta KU31 £55.70 Falken FK452 £58.70 (The 2 in bold are my choices at the moment). I think Loosey has tried Falken tyres on her ST205 but wasn't overly impressed? Might be worth checking with her. Kumho's would be worth trying as they seem to be putting a big effort into the Irish tarmac rally series and other motorsport activities. Whilst not necessarily a guide to road tyre suitability they are making an effort and hopefully this feeds back into the road tyre development. |

Without wishing to question Loosey's opinion (Too much  )
Loosey swapped form Nankang to Falkens IIRC - I can confirm that the Nankangs were truely shocking - I would have expected the Falkens to be a dramatic improvement on the Nankangs. I think Loosey also tried Toyo between the Nankangs and Falkens though so she may actually have some very good feedback. |

You are absolutely right Don - Kumho are putting a lot of research and development into tyre manufacturing. I believe they sponsor the F3 Euro-series and are big in the rally scene. I think I may well give the KU31s a go. |

The Cat is not out of the bag yet :wink: i.e. Lynne doesn't know yet 
Should be all sorted, ready to pick up towards the end of this week.
Decided to go for a standard flywheel in the end as I couldn't justify the cost of a Fidanza one. Thanks for that Terry...was that £284 fitted? Camskill do them for £68.70 x 4 = £274.80 delivered. It'll cost me £10 a wheel for fitting and balancing.  Aldershot Tyre and Exhaust
They will fit any tyre to any rim if you ask them nicely irrespective of where you got them from. |

Terry that's a really good deal you got there. After much hunting around the net and reading of tyre reviews. I have decided to give the Kumho Ecsta KU31s (225/50R16 92W) a go. I also found a local distributor/fitter for Kumho tyres: Yateley MOT Centre Ltd 19 Plough Road, Yateley Hampshire GU46 7UW 01252 876231 £258 fitted. |

Kumho Ecsta KU31s (225/50R16 92W) report. I have now done 500 miles on the tyres... Very little road noise - infact I get more noise because of the suspension (probably on too hard a dampening setting). Road holding in the dry is excellent - no break away or adverse body roll (or screeching). Road holding in the wet excellent - I was doing 90/100mph, er! 70mph on the motorway (M40) in the torrential rain, round corners, through standing water and no break away, sliding, aquaplanninng or adverse body roll. There were strong cross winds which caused the odd moment but the handling was precise and reassuring. Next update when I've given it a bit of a ragging er! enthusiastic driving. |

Sounds promising Nigel Probably worth mentioning that this is on a near standard JDM ST205. To put the report in context the only suspension mods likely to affect the tyre performance are Kayaba 4-point adjustable 'Super Street' dampers. Would be worth noting what setting the dampers are on. Also, what pressures are you running front and rear?
