Well, because the con rod bearings went poof for the second time now, I've bought an other shortblock for my ST205 wrc.

I want to do it right his time because I'm sick of all the trouble thi engine has given me.

First my head made a wierd ticking/clicking sound which turned out to be a worn out bucket that damaged the bucket hole, so i needed a new head.
Then the conrod bearings went poof, got my crank polished and new bearings fiited.
When we started the car, they went poof again so now I got myself a new shortblock....

Now my question is, because the head has been decked at least 3 times now, can I still use the OEM head gasket or should I use a thicker one like the HKS 1.6mm stoppertype HG?

Dennis

I'd be thinking thicker head gasket time...

Seen the Cometic ones? Much cheaper than that HKS jobbie...

try http://www.gtschris.com

AFAIK - Cometic do not make one for the rev3.

It's going to be either a standard Mr Toyota headgasket which is a metal 1.0 mm thick gasket;
(Alternatively - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HEAD-GASKET-SET-TOYOTA-CELICA-ST205-2.0-3SGTE-3S-GTE_W0QQitemZ370121010009QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20081128?IMSfp=TL081128119004r201)
or
an HKS Steel Cylinder Head Gasket from Fensport http://www.fensport.co.uk/parts.htm
- 1.2 MM £155 + vat + p&p
- 1.6MM £165 + vat + p&p.
I would also go for the ARP Uprated Cylinder Head stud kit.

Which one do you think I should use?

Is there a lot of difference when using a 1.2 or a 1.6mm gasket??

OK - this is where it starts getting technical!
Unfortunately, I'm not knowledgable enough or qualified to give a detailed answer, however, the thickness of the gasket alters the 'squish'.
Here's a link I found which may help http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/squishcalc1.html.

Ok thanks for the link :)
very interesting stuff

I've read on GT-fours.co.uk that the OEM gasket meassures 1.4 mm when new and 1.2mm when compressed... so this rules out the 1.2mm HKS gasket doesn't it?

with the head being decked a couple of times, I think I should use the 1.6mm one..

But I know as much about engines as G.W Bush nows about running a country :D

So if anyone can confirm my thoughts on this please do....

Do you know how much has been skimmed off the head each time?

That should give you a good idea

If you want to do it absolutely correctly then CC the combustion chambers. Volumes for the stock head are about somewhere. With this info you could calculate CR for any given headgasket
