when you are setting tyre pressure, what is it based on.
i have 225/45/17 on my 185.
now kwik rip have done them to 34. as he said it says on his chart.
not sure based on what. because the charts lists with oem wheels and tyres.
so does any 225/45/17 tyre require 34 psi as std. or
does my gt4 with 225/45/17's on require 34 psi. or
do i just keep them at 32 psi.
i have to take care of these so i am being anal about even wear.
thanks in advance peeps.

Tyre pressure is based on a far few variables, I run my car at 35psi all round using slightly wider tyres than standard.
I would say that anything between 34 and 36 would be OK for a gt4 depending on the specific tyre and how you have the alignment - camber/castor/toe - setup.
If your really concerned about tyre wear then the best thing I can suggest is that you get a decent metal ruler or caliper so you can monitor the tread depth on a regular basis and get hold of a proper tyre pressure gauge from a manufacturer like Longacre or Intercomp, these are far more accurate than a popout pen type or gauges on the machines at garages.

thankyou. I am a calibration manager so i should be able to rustle up some calibrated pressure gauge.
I dont mean anal; ruler and 1/8thmm of tread is nmissing off the left side oh no. i hate the way if your pressure or tracking is out how quickly the tread does wear . so if i can keep them tip top,(pressure, tracking, dont know anything about camber and toe in/out). then i can get the longest use before my celica needs more spends out of my wallet.
thanks though....
