Where is the drain point for the intercooler on my car as per above?
Cheers

I had a look and couldn't see the drain plug... :( ...anyone got a pic or a link to a site where there is a pic. I had a look at the pic of a CS model setup and my radiator is much smaller than the one in the picture. :?

I'm confused now... :(

Steve - I can't see an obvious drain point either from this picture...

Maybe it's the bit in the bottom left hand corner or the radiator that apears to have a clear dirty plastic pipe on it?

The complete system from the CS setup

Looking at that picture I agree that the clear plastic pipe certainly looks like the drain pipe. However....my radiator is much smaller than that one pictured.......so I'm baffled as to whether my one is standard or not...let alone the drain point.

Is it possible that your car has been in a collision and repaired with non standard parts?

Or the chargecooler was holed somehow and the above happened.

If you could post a picture of the radiator and the engine bay it would probably give us something more to go on.

In the meantime to change the fluid I would suggest removing the lower hose connection to the rad and flushing it through with water then refilling with the Toyota ForLife should do the trick. :)

I can do that indeed......this radiator looks old-ish with signs of normal weathering........it looks like it's been on there for a long time......bumper is standard....and original as it's got all the stone chips on it...I'm sure I'll find a way to drain it when the time comes. :D
As Loosey sasy, I may even do a little write up with pics.

Not wanting to ask a stupid question or anything m8 - are you sure you are looking at the intercooler rad and not teh gearbox oil cooler rad?

I could be.
Ok....if I stand in front of the car and kneel down I can look into the bumper area.
I see the radiatior (big one with 2 fans) on the left hand side.......and to the right is a small radiator right near the front of the bumper. I'd guess that it's about 8 inches square....no more than that.
I had a look at this small radiator and noticed to very rusty looking pipes underneath it which go upwards into the radiator.....where the rusty pipes join this raditor you can see that the radiator looks newer....although it is weathered a little.
Is the IC radiator behind the big radiator or in front of it? If it's in front then I'm looking at the right raditor indeed....which leaves me to believe that something has happened. Before I bought the car the chap said the main radiator was replaced......and it's looks new....didn't say anything about the intercooler radiator being replaced.....mind you....my IC doen't have the correct fluid in it at the moment......and I was getting a 54 error code which has now gone and not come back since I topped up a little.

I'm still none the wiser... :?

the intercooler radiator has rubber pipes going into it

the gearbox cooler has solid metal pipes (which corrode to buggery!) going vertically into the bottom of the rad

i think there is a butterfly drain *bleep* on the underside of the chargecooler radiator which is a dead giveaway. the gearbox cooler doesnt have any drain bolt at all

although, your post does make the car sound a little strange...

take a little lesson from houdini and find the chargecooler pump on the underside of the chassis, behind and below the passenger side headlight. follow the rubber tubing until you meet the radiator it (should be!) connected to. there it is ;)

good luck :)

Thanks Andy....you may be right about the gearbox rad. as I have two corroded pipes indeed which are feeding into the bottom of the rad. lso mentioned before......
I'll use your method to locate......I'm sure I haven't been looking in the right place. :D

Found it.... :D
Yep.....I was looking at the gearbox Rad....

Indeed my one is exactly the same as the one in the pic.

I can now see the drain point too.
On a slightly different note the new radiator which was fitted just a few months ago had rusty looking stuff around the rad. cap. The coolant needs changing already...........not sure what was used but I will not take a chance. I think it just needs flushing through.....so I'll put new coolant in the radiator as well as the IC rad. too......which means another trip to Mr. T for thr forlife... 8)
I have seen the white butterfly drain point on the main rad. If I drain the coolant from there will it drain the coolant in the engine too? Or will I need to undo the engine coolant drain plug too?

Cheers guys.

Steve

No, the engine coolant is a seperate system to the IC system.

I wouldn't be too worried by emptying every last amount from the engine. I would steer clear of undoing the block drain point as it's a bugger to get at, and even worse if when you put it back in it leaks! A good flush through with a hose pipe and subsequent drain should help. I would remove the thermostat to aid flushing through and draining
