The owners book for the genel celica models state that for a 3sgte engined celica the coolant level is 6.5 litre with heater and 6.0 without heater.....what does the with/without heater bit mean? :?
Which figure will be the one I need?

Also.
Can anyone advise the IC capacity for my CS model as I'll be doing that too.
I heard it was 2.5 litres.

Cheers guys

Steve

Steve - I would summise that they are referring to the capacity of the engine coolant if the coolant inside the heater is also drained out i.e. the heater controls set to hot when you drain the system

I would think that the figure of 2.5l for the IC system is a good estimate, this is also the figure quoted for the 205 :)

I guess it's like oil filling in that you can easily see if you need to put more in........I generally put less in to start with that suggested and then just keep topping up until the level is right.

Guys quick Q.
If I drain the coolant from the bleed valve on the radiator will the coolant in the engine drain too?
if I fill up via the radiator will that fill up the engine too?

Just want to double check..

Cheers

Steve

Yes partially and Yes. The best way to remove the engine coolant is to loosen the thermostat housing. and let the coolant drain from there aswell.

When you refill and start the engine just keep a close eye on things for the first 20 minutes of running or so.

Cheers matey.....do you mean to loosen/undo the rubber pipe on the thermostat housing? it's a very tight spot to get too....looks like I'd have to remove several bits to get to it.... :(

Steve - you will need to slacken off the thermostat to aid removal of the coolant. I would recommend simply removing it.

Whilst access is a bit of a git, you should be able to remove the thermostat without removing the alternator...

No worries.
As per your reply here:

I have wondered how you took that picture...because my thermostat is buried deep.... wouldn't even see how I could get a socket or spanner in there to undo the 2 x bolts......is it the same on a 205 as a 185 CS then?

I havent even got a hosepipe to flush.....the nearest I can get my car to a tap is about 60 yards away.

Does anyone fancy letting pop round their house to give a helping hand? I'll pay ya....
