Hi folks,

After some tips on removing the drive shafts from the hub, the whole assembly is off the car so I have the hub loose with the drive shaft attached. I can't undo the hub hut as the whole assembly is rotating, I've tried to brace it but its so tight it just lifts itself of the floor even with me standing on it!

probably the #1 top tip is crack the hub nut before you remove the hub...........DOH

off the car the only thing I can suggest is a longer brace bar between studs nd make sure you're cranking on it in the right plane. By that i mean you should be pushing the socket bar down on the same side as the brace nt trying to lift the socket bar on the opposite side if that makes sense

If all else fails, I suggest refitting to car (no need to tighten everything, just enough to hold it all in place)

OK will give it a try - refitting is not an option as these are spares - my car has all its bits still attached.

I was in the same boat, i clamped the drive shaft in a vice got a big breaker bar and 4 foot extention tube to crack the nut off not even an HGV windy gun would shift it. Dorris

Use a longer pole between studs than the breaker bar/extension you're using, and push downwards on the breaker bar.

Hopefully the nut will come loose before the studs bend.

Will probably mash the stud threads though they are easily replaced. I would drill a pilot hole and chisel it off - will save time in the long run.
